Who We Are

We started our company to help others launch and run their own businesses, at any stage. The way we help is by keeping it simple and supporting entrepreneurs one step at a time. Put simply: our mission is to enable anyone to start, run, and grow their business while avoiding the common pitfalls that derail hopeful entrepreneurs. No more having to wade through forms, taxes, or ongoing state compliance.

We are a remote company based in Austin, Texas. We have team members from Florida to Oregon and all points in-between. Take pride in your work knowing that it shapes how people all across the country reach their goal of starting, running, and growing their business.

If the idea of helping people and working with a genuinely caring, supportive team excites you, then you’ve come to the right place.

The Role

ZenBusiness is seeking a Director of Content Marketing to establish and scale our content marketing function through a blend of strategic leadership and hands-on execution. This role is foundational to the continued evolution of our Brand Marketing team and plays a critical role in helping the organization move from reactive, one-off content toward a durable, repeatable content engine.

Reporting to the VP of Brand Marketing, this leader will own content strategy and narrative execution across channels—translating brand strategy into clear content priorities, systems, and storytelling that balance near-term activation with long-term brand building. The Director of Content Marketing will operate as a player-coach, rolling up their sleeves to build the foundation while shaping the processes, standards, and relationships needed to scale a future content team.

Our ideal candidate is entrepreneurial in spirit, comfortable operating in ambiguity, and motivated by building something from the ground up.

Responsibilities

  • Content Strategy & Narrative Leadership:
    • Define and develop ZenBusiness’s content marketing strategy in alignment with brand positioning, business goals, and audience needs.
    • Define and scale ZenBusiness’s most critical content pillars, including data-driven storytelling and customer stories, creating systems that allow these programs to grow sustainably over time.
    • Translate brand strategy and POV into clear content pillars, editorial themes, and narrative frameworks.
    • Ensure a consistent brand narrative across content touchpoints while allowing flexibility for different channels and moments.

Build the Content Engine (Zero-to-One)

    • Establish the foundational content system, including editorial planning, briefing standards, review and QA processes, and governance.
    • Bring a modern, AI-forward approach to content strategy and workflows, using emerging tools to improve quality, speed, and scalability while helping up-level how the broader team works.
    • Create clarity around the why and where of content to enable scalable creative production.
    • Design systems and processes that allow content efforts to compound over time rather than operate as isolated initiatives.

Hands-On Execution (Player–Coach)

    • Be actively involved in shaping content, especially early on—outlining, writing, editing, scripting, or refining key assets as needed.
    • Lead by doing: establish systems by using them, not just defining them.
    • Guide and review work across formats, including written content, marketing website content, lifecycle messaging, and narrative-driven video or scripted storytelling.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Collaborates naturally across Brand Marketing, Growth Marketing, Creative, Product Design, and other teams that shape content standards.
    • Partner closely with Brand Creative to translate narrative strategy into effective creative execution.
    • Partner with Growth Marketing to ensure content supports acquisition and campaign efforts while remaining aligned with long-term brand strategy.

External Partner & Resource Leadership

    • Manage a hybrid content model using freelancers, agencies, and external partners.
    • Set clear direction and standards to ensure high-quality, on-brand output.
    • Help define how the content function may evolve as creative and content output scales, including the potential to lead an internal team in the future.

Qualifications

  • 8–10+ years of experience in consumer or B2C marketing, content marketing, brand, or related roles, ideally within product- or platform-driven businesses; experience spanning B2B or enterprise audiences is a plus.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading teams and/or managing external resources, including freelancers and agencies.
  • Proven experience building or evolving a content function in a growing organization.
  • Strong editorial judgment and storytelling ability, with a track record of translating complex ideas into clear, compelling narratives.
  • Demonstrated comfort operating as a player-coach, balancing strategic leadership with hands-on execution when needed.
  • Experience working closely with creative, growth, and marketing operations teams to bring content strategies to life.
  • Experience guiding content across formats, including written content, marketing website and campaign content, lifecycle messaging, and narrative-driven video or scripted storytelling.
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging AI and data to inform content strategy, improve workflows, and scale content programs in modern marketing organizations.
  • Working knowledge of performance marketing, SEO, and content distribution, with the ability to use data and search insights to inform content strategy while balancing brand-building storytelling and acquisition-focused needs.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to create clarity and alignment across teams.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and adapting to evolving priorities and organizational dynamics.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Familiarity with SMB or entrepreneurial audiences.
  • Proven ability to balance brand-building content (narrative-driven, emotionally resonant storytelling) with performance-oriented content (conversion-focused, campaign-driven initiatives).
  • Experience creating content playbooks, customer storytelling frameworks, and narrative systems that enable teams to scale consistently.
  • Experience optimizing content for both consumer experience and positive impact on LLM and SEO indexing.
