A Little About Us

The Corporate Accounting team partners across Finance, HR, FP&A, Legal, Procurement, and business operations to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and efficient accounting processes across Yahoo's global business. The team plays a critical role in the monthly and quarterly close while continuously improving how accounting work gets done through automation, scalable processes, and modern financial systems.

About the Role

Yahoo is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Director of Corporate Accounting to oversee key areas of our global accounting organization within a fast-paced media and technology environment. This role will lead critical corporate accounting processes across non-personnel expenses, including PO/PR accruals, legal accruals, network and cloud expenses, investments, and other operating expenses. The Director will also oversee lease accounting and fixed assets, including capitalizable labor, while leading a team of four accounting professionals responsible for monthly and quarterly close processes.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Corporate Accounting, this role will partner closely with teams across Finance, HR, Legal, Procurement, FP&A, and business operations to ensure accurate financial reporting, improve operational efficiency, and maintain strong internal controls. The Director will also play a key role in advancing automation and process optimization, including leveraging AI tools to streamline manual accounting processes and enhance financial analysis capabilities.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting knowledge with operational execution skills and experience working in large, complex organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage large dollar and high volume of Cap labor submissions annually

  • Review and approve internally developed software projects for capitalization

  • Implement appropriate controls to ensure timely, accurate, and complete recording and reporting of Cap Labor

  • Facilitate executive review of projects submitted for capitalization and lead the Capital Labor Committee quarterly meetings

  • Apply technical accounting skills to make decisions and determine appropriate accounting treatment 

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 4 accounting professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.

  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities in compliance with U.S. GAAP, SOX controls, and internal accounting policies.

  • Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, variance analyses, and supporting schedules related to corporate accounting activities.

  • Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, HR, Legal, Procurement, and business stakeholders to manage expenses, support forecasting activities, and resolve accounting matters.

  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations 

  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors and support audit requests, walkthroughs, and control documentation.

  • Drive process optimization, automation, and operational improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability across accounting workflows.

  • Utilize AI tools and emerging technologies (i.e., Gemini, Copilot, Claude) to streamline manual processes, enhance reconciliations, and improve financial reporting and analysis.

  • Support controllership initiatives, process enhancements, and special projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; advanced degree preferred.

  • CPA required.

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including management experience within large public companies or complex organizations.

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SOX compliance, and corporate accounting operations.

  • Experience with payroll, benefits, accrual accounting, and operating expense accounting processes.

  • Experience with fixed assets specifically related to capitalized labor

  • Proven experience managing and developing accounting teams.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Experience operating in fast-paced, matrixed environments.

  • Experience with large ERP systems (i.e., Oracle Financials) and process automation initiatives preferred.

The compensation for this position ranges from $129,210.00 - $281,305.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
