About the Role
The Director, Government Relations plans and executes the state legislative priorities for up to 12 key states, and monitors activity in up to 25 states. The primary role is focused on developing relationships with legislators and policy influencers in assigned states. This primarily includes but is not limited to the Governor’s Office and Education Committee members, and others. Additionally, this person will manage the lobbyists in assigned states. The role requires a great deal of collaboration in support of the State Sales Team to accomplish revenue goals.
Responsibilities
- Leads ClassWallet’s legislative agenda in assigned states
- Guides and monitors the work of lobbyists in assigned states
- Builds and maintains relationships to maximize land/expand/defend efforts with:
- Governor’s offices
- Legislators, primarily members of education and workforce committees
- Policy advisors and legislative liaisons in state agencies
- Drafts bill proposals and amendments
- Identifies and monitors legislation that impacts current client programs or could lead to new sales opportunities and communicates updates to leadership and sales team
- Engages with local, state, and national advocacy groups to advance mutual priorities
- Represents ClassWallet at various conferences and events
- Supports the Sales team with development of RFP responses
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience of government relations experience
- Experience working with Education Committees is highly preferred
- Experience in school choice policy
- Experience managing lobbyists is preferred
- Experience influencing legislation is preferred
- Ability to travel 50% or more
