The Director of Grassroots Operations (DOGO) is a senior leader on the state leadership team responsible for building, scaling, and optimizing AFP’s grassroots field capability and plays a critical part in developing talent, executing grassroots strategy, and driving community impact.
You are a people leader and oversee the full grassroots talent lifecycle—from recruiting and onboarding to coaching, performance management, and long-term development—while ensuring your team delivers high-impact results across events, volunteer activation, and policy engagement.
This role will be working in the field and be based in Texas.
How You Will Contribute
Design and execute statewide grassroots strategies to advance aligned public policy and deliver measurable outcomes across key priority initiatives
Lead, coach, and supervise a multi-layered grassroots team and ensure field activities (events, canvassing, outreach) are legally compliant and operationally sound
Help your team develop their individual abilities and strengths that can make a meaningful impact for the organization
Develop a portfolio of field tactics to drive volunteer engagement, advocacy, and community impact
Own the data strategy for grassroots execution, including voter/advocate universe creation and targeting while also ensuring data integrity
Partner with internal teams (Electoral Strategy, Policy, Strategy & Operations, Education & Training), vendors, and coalition partners to align grassroots efforts with broader organizational goals and national efforts
Partner with leadership to deliver measurable outcomes across key priority initiatives
Collaborate with data and implementation teams to support targeting, reporting, and field execution
Own the full field employee lifecycle, including hiring, onboarding, development, and offboarding and build and maintain a strong hiring pipeline across grassroots roles within your state
Drive adoption and proficiency of internal knowledge systems (expense management, CRM, grassroots tools)

Demonstrated ability to develop and execute grassroots campaigns, large public policy events, and community engagement strategies.
A deep understanding of the local, state, and national electoral and public policy landscape, the legislative process, and grassroots communities
Comfort working with data systems, reporting tools, and performance tracking
Experience working with CRM’s and/or voter management systems like i360
Comfort and confidence working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment independent of direct supervision or direction. We need a go-getter who can figure out how to overcome new and unique challenges!
The ability to travel at least 25% of the time and a valid driver’s license.
