Summary:
The Director of Procurement & Spend Strategy is a highly visible, enterprise-wide leadership role sitting at the intersection of finance, legal, technological infrastructure, and organizational strategy. Managing an addressable spend of ~$30M and overseeing an active portfolio of approximately 150 vendor relationships, this high-impact position owns the end-to-end global indirect procurement architecture across the U.S. and Mexico, demand intake, and supplier relationship management (SRM) network.

As the leader of a centralized procurement function, the Director will oversee a Procurement Manager, establishing a clean division of labor that allows the Director to focus on strategic sourcing, high-value negotiations, and cost-avoidance. The Director will redefine Procurement from a reactive administrative function into a proactive corporate gatekeeper and trusted strategic partner. By deploying robust Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) software, establishing strict professional services controls, and building cross-border efficiencies, the Director will actively prevent capital leakage. Ultimately, they will institutionalize a future-proof culture of financial accountability across our Executive Team, Senior Leadership Team and individual contract owners, ensuring that every operational dollar saved is a dollar directly reinvested into our life-saving mission.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Lead, develop, coach, and manage one direct report (Procurement Manager), ensuring team accountability, strategic alignment, and results. Establish a workflow where the Director focuses on high-value vendor negotiations while the specialist manages the intake pipeline.

  • Enterprise Sourcing Strategy: Develop, implement, and continuously refine organization wide category strategies to drive cost optimization across all vendors, including software, consultants, marketing, facilities, and equipment.

  • Spend Strategy:  Partner with CFO and other members of the Finance team on intelligence and behavior: looking across every department, analyzing where every dollar goes, and designing systems to optimize those expenditures.

  • Policy and Process Governance & Controls: Develop, document, enhance, implement, enforce, and maintain procurement-related policies and comprehensive intake workflows, spend thresholds, approval matrices, international compliance tracks, and related documentation organization-wide.

  • Supplier Relationship Management: Oversee and manage an active portfolio of ~150 vendor relationships. Lead high-visibility commercial negotiations, supplier segmentation, and preferred vendor programs to mitigate risks and ensure long-term resilience.

  • Digital Transformation & Enablement: Oversee the implementation and optimization of enterprise digital procurement tools, specifically a dedicated Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) software tool, to house contracts, track expirations and renewals, automate workflows, and ensure a transparent sourcing lifecycle.

  • Education and Financial Accountability Reinforcement: Through training and close collaboration with senior leadership, educate and drive awareness to the importance of procurement procedures and financial accountability with U.S. and Mexico teams. Monitor accountability and compliance relating to procurement, and partner with Legal and People teams to enforce accountability.

  • Executive Performance Reporting: Establish and own independent, high visibility reporting frameworks delivered directly to the Executive Team and Senior Leadership Team to track pipeline velocity, renewal horizons, and financial impacts.

  • Demonstrate fair, ethical, and equitable business practices.

  • Handle sensitive and confidential matters/data with the utmost discretion and integrity.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to fostering and maintaining an environment of inclusion and belonging, modeling Trevor’s values in everyday interactions as well as operational initiatives.

  • Maintain knowledge competency relating to The Trevor Project’s programs, services, and strategic goals, as well as the LGBTQ+ community we serve.

  • Learn eagerly, share knowledge appropriately, and improve continuously.

  • Demonstrate successful planning and problem-solving skills, including multitasking and working well within tight timelines.

  • Work, communicate, and collaborate effectively with others.

  • Demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy in all work.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to fostering and maintaining an environment of inclusion and belonging.

  • Other relevant duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8–10 years of experience in indirect procurement, strategic sourcing, or supply chain management.

  • Experience leading, developing, coaching, and managing a team of procurement professionals.

  • Proven track record of managing an addressable spend of $15M to $30M+ and successfully overseeing a high volume of active vendor relationships (150+ contracts).

  • Proven track record of delivering measurable cost savings, cost avoidance, and working capital optimization at scale within SaaS, technology, or high-growth environments. Experience in nonprofit and international operations is ideal.

  • Expertise in complex contract literacy, understanding liability/indemnification terms, and ability to coordinate seamlessly and collaborate effectively with in-house legal and external counsel.

  • Solid understanding of software licensing models (named, concurrent, usage based, per device, enterprise, etc.)

  • Proficiency in:

  • Modern procurement tools and Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) software systems.

  • Spend analytics platforms and enterprise reporting frameworks.

  • SaaS vendor management and professional services procurement.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related quantitative field preferred (or relevant equivalent years of experience required). MBA or relevant master's degree is a plus.

  • Masterful presentation and interpersonal skills. Proven leadership presence with the ability to act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, influence behavioral change across departments, and comfortably lead through complexity and ambiguity.

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English; Spanish a plus.
