Lead growth, engagement, and monetization strategies for Afar and Suitcase's social platforms, focusing on content development and audience engagement across various online platforms.
Afar, the critically acclaimed travel media brand, is seeking a director of social platforms to lead growth, engagement, and monetization for Afar and its newly acquired UK title, Suitcase. This role reports to the Editor in Chief.
To be successful in this role, you will need to be enthusiastic and highly experienced at developing content for online platforms, including but not limited to Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, with the goal of expanding, engaging, and informing audiences across platforms and formats using video, visuals, and text. You should be clued in on emerging networks and how Afar and Suitcase can use them effectively, and well-versed in building social media strategies that increase audience engagement and revenue opportunities. You should also be a vertical video pro, able to develop and execute on a strategy that will engage audiences on video-based platforms and translate Afar and Suitcase stories into short-form video content.
Candidates must be both strategists and doers: You should be experienced at setting high-level strategies as well as getting into the daily process by managing, writing, producing, and editing social content in multiple formats.
Responsibilities
- Take strategic ownership of Afar’s and Suitcase’s social platforms
- Set and direct day-to-day workflow to increase engagement and revenue
- Collaborate with editors to develop cross-platform content packages
- Work with Afar’s sales and marketing team on revenue opportunities
- Develop, implement, and maintain clear processes and communication channels to facilitate operational efficiency across teams
- Develop, manage, and evolve Afar’s and Suitcase’s social media calendar, tracking to KPIs and OKRs
- Develop, manage, and evolve Afar’s content creator network
- Bring fresh and exciting ideas forward that challenge conventional thinking
- Lead pitch + ideation meetings, including series development
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- 6+ years experience in digital media, ideally having worked on both editorial and audience development
- 2+ years of management experience Professional experience creating and optimizing content for platforms including TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Pinterest
- Professional experience with publishing and analytics tools including TrueAnthem or similar scheduling tools, video editing tools, Parse.ly, and Google Analytics
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and collaboration skills with the ability to navigate multiple stakeholders’ inputs, opinions, and decision-making styles
- A sense of humor and keenness to adapt to a changing media landscape and find audiences in new ways
- A work-style that balances entrepreneurial spirit with operational rigor
- A highly motivated self-starter with proven ability to manage multiple people, projects, priorities, and deadlines
