Set multi-year technical strategy and architecture for a next-generation mortgage servicing system and AI-driven workflows. Own platform integrations, drive cross-team alignment, advise executives, mentor senior ICs, and represent the company externally while delivering foundational platform bets.

As a Distinguished Engineer within Servicing Tech, you'll set the multi-year technical direction for the systems and platforms that serve 1 in 6 U.S. mortgage clients. Servicing Tech is the backbone of loan management at Rocket. Our teams across Servicing Digital, Servicing Core, Servicing Platform, Non-Performing Loans, and Team Member Experience build and operate everything from the client portal on Rocket.com to the internal systems that loan servicing, collections, finance, compliance, and investor relations rely on across the loan lifecycle.

We are entering a pivotal chapter. A full-scale System of Record modernization will reshape the technical foundation beneath our client experiences and our internal operations. AI-driven workflows and decisioning will redefine how servicing works at scale. The engineers who join us now will not inherit a finished system. They will build the one that replaces it.

The Distinguished Engineer role sits above any single team within that transformation. You'll formulate the strategy for the next-generation servicing system, the AI-based workflows that run on top of it, and the platform integrations that connect Servicing Tech to the rest of Rocket and out to investors, regulators, and partners. You'll define the AI-enabled future of the systems beneath our client and internal experiences, and own the architectural patterns that hold Servicing Tech together as it modernizes.

Distinguished Engineers are among the most senior individual contributors in the company. They set multi-year technical direction across multiple domains and shape how the business builds and operates technology. They formulate foundational platform strategy, translate emerging research into production capability, define the AI-enabled future of our engineering platforms, develop the next generation of senior ICs, and represent the company in the broader industry. They are on the path to Tech Fellow.

In this role, that mandate translates into three connected bets: the next-generation servicing system that will replace our legacy System of Record, the AI-based workflows that will run on top of it, and the platform integrations that connect it to the rest of Rocket. You'll own the technical direction across all three and the platform-level patterns that hold them together.

About the role

  • Define the multi-year technical strategy for the next-generation servicing system, the AI-based workflows that run on top of it, and the platform integrations that connect it across Rocket.

  • Own the architectural direction the vertical will build on for years.

  • Lead the cross-cutting platform investments that materially change what Servicing Tech is capable of, including the AI-enabled direction of our core systems.

  • Own multi-year technical bets where the payoff is uncertain and the timeline outlasts most planning cycles, and stay accountable for the outcome.

  • Serve as a standing technical advisor to executive leadership on technology strategy, build-vs-buy decisions, and the bets that shape Servicing Tech's direction.

  • Drive alignment across engineering organizations on shared architectural direction, resolving foundational trade-offs that no single org can resolve alone.

  • Maintain a sustained external presence through conference talks, written thinking, open-source contribution, or standards-body participation, such that peers outside the company recognize the work.

  • Mentor Principal Engineers with the explicit aim of developing future Distinguished Engineers, and shape the engineering culture of the vertical as a named outcome of the role.

About you

Minimum Qualifications

  • Significant tenure as a senior individual contributor (typically a Principal-or-equivalent track) with demonstrable company-wide impact across multiple domains.

  • Hands-on experience leading platform-building efforts at enterprise scale.

  • Sustained external presence in the engineering community per the recognition criteria above.

  • Evidence of having owned at least one multi-year technical bet end-to-end, including accountability for the outcome.

  • Bachelor's or higher in Computer Science or a related field welcome but secondary to demonstrated impact and recognition.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge and hands-on experience in platform building, including the design and stewardship of foundational platforms that multiple product teams build on for years.

  • Demonstrated company-wide and cross-domain technical impact, with a track record of work that altered the trajectory of multiple parts of the business rather than a single team or stack.

  • Multi-year strategic thinking with a credible record of placing foundational technical bets, including bets that took years to validate and at least some that did not pay off.

  • Experience translating research, emerging tools, or industry shifts into production-grade platforms.

  • Sustained external recognition, demonstrated by two or more of: recurring conference talks at recognized venues, peer-reviewed or widely-cited writing, maintainer-level open-source contribution, standards-body participation, or named external advisory roles.

  • Track record of advising executives in their own language and translating multi-year technical strategy into terms the business can act on.

  • Demonstrated development of senior ICs into the next level, including Principal Engineers, or comparable evidence of growing the technical leadership bench.
