Engineer, Electrical System Test

About Otto Aerospace

OTTO Aerospace is developing the world’s first fifth-generation business jet, designed for sustainability through the innovative use of advanced super-laminar aerodynamics and high-precision, net-shaped composites. Flight tests of our technology demonstrator validate a dramatic reduction in fuel burn and allow for a sizeable improvement in cabin comfort. Otto Aerospace designs world-class aircraft from first principles of physics and delivering ground-breaking aircraft and economic performance.

About the Role

Reporting to the Manager of System Integration and Simulation Test, the Electrical System Test Engineer plays a critical role in supporting the development, integration, and testing of aircraft systems and subsystems in a laboratory setting. This position is responsible for engineering ownership of lab electrical drawings and test setup schematics, ensuring all lab configurations accurately reflect test requirements and as-built conditions.

What You'll Do

  • Create, modify, and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, interconnect diagrams, and test setup schematics for simulator and laboratory environments
  • Develop bench-level electrical interconnect drawings for test rigs, iron bird systems, and component-level validation setups, including pinouts, shielding, routing specifications, and simulator-to-hardware connections
  • Generate and maintain Interface Control Documents (ICDs), signal routing documentation, and configuration-controlled as-built drawings aligned with program standards
  • Define pin-to-pin wiring between LRUs and test equipment, power distribution for test benches, and grounding/signal reference schemes
  • Translate test requirements into lab wiring configurations to simulate aircraft systems
  • Support installation of sensors, actuators, and electrical load banks
  • Support lab readiness for test execution, including coordination of power and load simulation setups
  • Interpret aircraft and laboratory electrical schematics, system interface documents, and test requirements to develop executable lab configurations
  • Perform engineering-level troubleshooting of test configurations and electrical interfaces, distinct from technician-level execution
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate system performance and functionality
  • Conduct testing and gather data to support system validation and verification
  • Generate reports to document test results and provide recommendations for system improvements
  • Develop and execute test campaigns and review/analyze data to support system validation and verification
  • Maintain and update lab equipment, software, and documentation to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards

Who You Are

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields

Experience

  • 3+ years’ experience with electrical CAD and wiring design tools (for example, 3DX Electrical, Capital Harness, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar)
  • Familiarity with aircraft systems and subsystems, including avionics, electrical, and mechanical systems
  • Proficiency with lab instrumentation tools such as DAQ systems, oscilloscopes, and signal conditioners
  • Experience with requirements and configuration-tracking documentation systems

Required Skills

  • Active Listening: Strive to gain insight and truly understand all project stakeholders
  • Critical Thinking: Make prompt, informed, value-based decisions
  • Organization: Focus on agenda, schedules, frameworks, and methodologies, as well as communicating tasks, updates, progress, and blockers
  • Problem Solving: Assess issues from different vantage points to formulate the best solution
  • Self-Motivation: Demonstrate the highest level of commitment and drive to see projects through
  • Teamwork and Team Building: Contribute to a collaborative culture where people with unique personalities and skills work together effectively and hold themselves accountable to shared goals
  • Strong Business Communication: Use professional language and tone in all forms of communication

Where You'll Be

*Initially, this role will be remote with travel one week per month to our Ft Worth TX Location. By mid 2027, the role will transition to full onsite at our new location in Jacksonville, FL. Relocation assistance will be provided.
