At Underdog, we make sports more fun.

Our thesis is simple: build the best products and we’ll build the biggest company in the space, because there’s so much more to be built for sports fans. We’re just over five years in, and we’re one of the fastest-growing sports companies ever, most recently valued at $1.3B. And it’s still the early days.

We’ve built and scaled multiple games and products across fantasy sports, sports betting, and prediction markets, all united in one seamless, simple, easy to use, intuitive and fun app.

Underdog isn’t for everyone. One of our core values is give a sh*t. The people who win here are the ones who care, push, and perform. If that’s you, come join us.

Winning as an Underdog is more fun.

This isn't a traditional Engineering Manager role, this is a rare opportunity to define a new frontier at Underdog. You'll be the first engineering hire for our emerging Non-Sports Prediction Markets initiative: exploring how we can expand beyond traditional sports to build compelling markets around crypto, entertainment, politics, finance, cultural events, and other real-world outcomes that captivate audiences worldwide.

You'll operate in exploration mode for the first few months: building the roadmap, validating technical feasibility, investigating market mechanics and settlement systems, and defining the ideal team composition before scaling. This is a greenfield role with space to shape both product direction and engineering culture from the ground up.

About the role

In this role, you’ll work hand-in-hand with Product leadership to:

  • Build the future of our product. Shape the development of the non-sports prediction markets roadmap that provides seamless, engaging, and scalable experiences for millions of users globally.
  • Build a winning engineering culture. Cultivate a collaborative, innovative environment that thrives on technical excellence, creativity, and shared passion for delivering impactful products.
  • Operate in true zero-to-one mode. Your first months will be a mix of exploration, technical validation, rapid prototyping, and high-velocity building. You’ll determine the right architecture, the right bets, and ultimately the right team to scale.
  • Collaborate to shape the product vision. Partner closely with product managers, product designers and engineering leads to define features, plan delivery, and drive the development process to launch new and improved experiences around our non-sports offerings.
Who you are
  • At least 2 years of experience managing a high-performing cross-functional team responsible for delivering high-impact features.
  • At least 7 years of experience building heavy-traffic consumer mobile applications and/or systems.
  • Strong product intuition; you work tightly with PMs and designers to translate ambiguous goals into clear technical plans.
  • Strong background as an IC engineer: you’re comfortable diving into architecture, design reviews, and technical tradeoffs with your team.
  • Experience working with product managers in gathering requirements, investigating technical needs, and creating designs that fit within project timelines.
  • High level of ownership, accountability, and bias for action. You move work forward, unblock others quickly, and make thoughtful tradeoffs between speed and quality.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
You thrive in feedback-heavy, high-expectation environments and see clear goals and frequent check-ins as the norm. You set that tone for your team as well.
Even better if you have
  • Demonstrable experience in both native mobile and backend development.
  • Experience delivering engaging, mobile-first consumer product experiences.
  • Experience owning an entire product vertical or leading engineering at a high-growth startup.

Our target starting base salary range for this position is between $208,000 and $310,000, plus pre-IPO equity.  Our comp range reflects the full scale of expected compensation for this role. Offers are calibrated based on experience, skills, impact, and geographies. Most new hires land in the lower half of the band, with the opportunity to advance toward the upper end over time.

What we can offer you:
  • Unlimited PTO (we're extremely flexible with the exception of the first few weeks before & into the NFL season)
  • 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave
  • Home office stipend
  • A connected virtual first culture with a highly engaged distributed workforce
  • 5% 401k match, FSA, company paid health, dental, vision plan options for employees and dependents

#LI-REMOTE

We're a remote-first company and value in-person connection. That said, we expect everyone to gather 2-3 times per year for team and company offsites, trainings, and more.

This position may require sports betting licensure based on certain state regulations.
