About the Role

Abnormal AI’s mission is to protect organizations from cybercrime with the power of intelligent detection and resilient platforms. Our engineers rely on efficient development workflows, robust CI/CD systems, reproducible build infrastructure, and fast, reliable testing to deliver customer value at scale. This is where the Development Infrastructure and Testing team comes in.

As part of the broader Engineering Effectiveness initiative, this team provides the foundational tools and platforms that power engineering productivity at Abnormal—from secure, reproducible builds and dev environments, to streamlined CI/CD, to automation and metrics for scalable testing.

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead this team at the heart of the developer experience. This role will oversee the Development Platform Infrastructure (PI) and influence the formation of Testing Automation Platform (TAP) . You’ll be responsible for scaling the internal platforms that enable all engineers at Abnormal to build, test, and deploy software confidently, consistently, and quickly.

What You Will Do
  • Lead and grow a team of engineers focused on development environments, build tooling, CI/CD infrastructure, and automated testing platforms.
  • Define and execute the roadmap for platform services that make engineers more productive—including Bazel-based builds, secure base images, GitHub Actions workflows, and automated PR validation.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with SRE, Core Platform, Security, and Product Engineering teams to ensure platform primitives meet the reliability, security, and performance needs of the organization.
  • Drive reliability and standardization of development workflows—from laptop provisioning and IDE setup to artifact generation and vulnerability scanning.
  • Promote a data-driven culture by enabling collection and analysis of engineering process metrics (e.g., PR latency, build performance, test failure rates).
  • Create a healthy team culture through coaching, growth planning, and inclusive hiring. Foster technical excellence, collaboration, and psychological safety.
  • Own team execution and delivery, balancing urgent company-wide priorities with long-term investments in developer infrastructure.
Must Haves
  • 2+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager, leading teams focused on internal tools, CI/CD infrastructure, developer productivity, or testing frameworks.
  • 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience with backend systems or developer platforms (e.g., Bazel, GitHub Actions, Docker, artifact repositories, cloud infrastructure).
  • Proven ability to deliver cross-cutting platform projects and scale internal offerings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to align with stakeholders and guide team direction.
  • Passion for improving engineering effectiveness and building tools engineers love.
Nice to Have
  • Experience building testing frameworks, pipelines, or PR validation systems (e.g., pytest, merge queues, smoke/load testing).
  • Knowledge of build reproducibility, image hardening, or containerization best practices.
  • Experience managing internal developer-facing tools such as IDE plugins, developer onboarding automation, or local environment provisioning.
  • Experience with data pipelines and internal observability for engineering workflows.
What Success Looks Like
  • Engineers experience near-zero friction in development, CI/CD, and testing workflows.
  • Build and test failures are rare, and when they happen, recovery is fast and obvious.
  • PRs are reviewed and merged quickly, reliably, and with confidence.
  • Development infrastructure is stable, secure, and largely invisible to the end user.
  • Engineering decisions are increasingly informed by high-quality metrics and automation.
  • The team has a clear, evolving roadmap and is a model of engineering excellence and reliability.
