Tremendous business growth has spurred a need for significant investment in Toast's platform teams. The Services Infrastructure team takes on some of Toast’s more complex and interesting challenges, scaling distributed systems under high transaction volume:
- Designing, building, and maintaining critical routing infrastructure that underpins the operations of all Toast services - edge gateway, service mesh control plane, and routing sidecars
- Enabling hundreds of engineers throughout Toast with self-service tools and experiences in the Internal Developer Platform to help manage the lifecycles of services and SPAs in a safe, secure, and compliant way
- Developing and evangelizing patterns and best practices to improve the scalability, observability, and reliability of all Toast systems
- Consulting with teams to improve product scalability, observability, security, and reliability
- Participating in outage response and root cause analysis for critical systems and infrastructure incidents
About this roll* (Responsibilities)
- Enable a team of half a dozen talented engineers to continue performing at a high level and help increase the impact of their work
- Create and drive strategic organization-wide scalability, observability, and reliability initiatives in collaboration with technical leadership and Product Management
- Guide teams to build systems that can support an order-of-magnitude growth in traffic and enable a high degree of infrastructure customization
- Facilitate professional growth by mentoring engineers and leads on your team
Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)
- Hands-on experience managing a team in a platform/infrastructure or enterprise space
- Background in leading complex engineering projects in a Scrum environment
- Experience in building and running distributed systems
- Exposure to networking, and cloud architectures and patterns
- Bonus for familiarity with any of Nginx, EnvoyProxy, or Kubernetes

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills and experience. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions, if eligible), benefits, and equity (if eligible).
