About the Team/Role

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join our NAM Experiences team. The NAM Experiences team is responsible for the portal into WEX’s self service applications. These applications power essential features, from digital spend controls to real-time transaction insights.

This role requires a strong background in front-end development, with exposure to the full stack. As the leader of an engineering team, you will be responsible for designing and developing intuitive, performant web applications that integrate with our backend services to deliver seamless and enhanced customer experiences. Our platforms are crucial for our customers, enabling them to manage their fleet costs in an easy and efficient manner. The primary focus of this role is building robust, reusable and responsive user interfaces that empower fleet managers to configure controls, view reports, and streamline their daily operations.

How you’ll make an impact:

  • Define, own, and execute the long-term vision and strategy for the North American Mobility (NAM) Experience, encompassing card and vehicle management, and mobility payments (card issuance, controls, lifecycle, transactions).

  • Serve as a hands-on technical leader, specifically owning and implementing the systems designs for the UI platform.

  • Develop and maintain the architectural roadmap for the NAM experience, ensuring alignment with business goals and industry best practices.

  • Champion a culture of innovation, continuous learning, collaboration, and empowerment within the team.

  • Continuously challenge current processes to reduce time-to-market by adopting proper engineering approaches.

  • Drive and execute cross-team engineering projects as the single-threaded owner (STO).

  • Collaborate closely with product, UX, and commercial partners to prioritize work and develop a modern UI, working backward from customer requirements.

  • Enforce clear, metrics-driven measurements for developer productivity across the NAM Experience team.

  • Run effective weekly and monthly mechanisms for planning, executing, and auditing workstreams.

  • Partner with product and commercial leads to maintain a robust roadmap and define clear, interdependent OKRs.

  • Collaborate with other Mobility engineering teams to promote the reuse of development practices and components, minimizing duplication of effort.

  • Hire, lead, manage, retain, and grow high-performance software engineers.

  • Utilize active career growth planning, providing monthly and quarterly feedback for individuals' continual progress.

  • Maintain a detailed, granular resource map showing developers and their month-over-month work streams.

  • Comfortably present, influence, and communicate with the senior leadership team.

  • Provide regular updates and insights to your manager regarding challenges and opportunities within the Mobility domain.

Experience you'll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering.

  • 6+ years in software engineering experience, including 2+ years in an engineering management role, leading frontend/UI engineering teams.

  • Strong hands-on background building and scaling modern web applications using frameworks such as Angular, or React, with experience owning UI architecture at scale.

  • Proven experience driving engineering excellence in frontend systems, including performance optimization, accessibility (WCAG), reliability, and cross-browser compatibility.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and enforce testing strategies for UI systems (unit, integration, and end-to-end testing) and improve CI/CD pipelines for frontend delivery.

  • Experience partnering with Product, Design, and Backend teams to translate product vision into scalable and maintainable UI solutions.

  • Solid understanding of security, privacy, and compliance considerations relevant to web applications (e.g., authentication, authorization, data protection).

  • Familiarity with leveraging developer productivity tools, including automation and AI-assisted development, to improve code quality, velocity, and consistency.

  • Strong people leadership skills, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development for frontend engineers.

  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments, make informed trade-offs, and lead teams through change in a fast-paced organization.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and clearly articulate technical and non-technical concepts.

  • Exposure to analytics tools to track customers journeys between applications and how to convert the insights into features.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building high-performance distributed systems at internet-scale companies.

  • Strong understanding of modern front-end frameworks and tooling in a micro-frontend environment.

  • Experience building credit card products, or experience developing solutions in a scheme/network.

  • Experience working on closed-loop card systems.
