SMASH, Who we are?

We believe in long-lasting relationships with our talent. We invest time getting to know them and understanding what they seek as their professional next step.

We aim to find the perfect match. As agents, we pair our talent with our US clients, not only by their technical skills but as a cultural fit. Our core competency is to find the right talent fast.

We purposefully move away from the “contractor” or “outsourcing” type of relationship. Our clients don’t want contractors or “just a service.” Neither does our talent.

This position is Remote to work with a US Company; you will require to have Citizenship or a work permit from Costa Rica to apply for this role.

Role Summary

You will own the end-to-end delivery of an AI-powered contract and invoice validation platform, acting as the operational backbone of the engineering organization. This role sits at the intersection of engineering execution and product delivery, ensuring teams ship reliably, move fast, and continuously improve through strong agile leadership, technical fluency, and disciplined execution.

You will lead sprint execution, manage cross-team dependencies, and partner closely with Engineering, Product, and Customer Success to turn complex technical initiatives into predictable, high-quality releases.

Responsibilities:

Agile Leadership & Delivery Execution
  • Serve as Scrum Master for multiple engineering teams, facilitating standups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
  • Own sprint cadence, delivery predictability, and execution health by tracking velocity, burn-downs, and delivery metrics.
  • Proactively remove blockers, surface risks early, and manage cross-team dependencies.
  • Champion agile best practices while adapting processes to the realities of a fast-moving SaaS environment.
Engineering Project & Release Ownership
  • Lead complex, cross-functional engineering initiatives from kickoff through production release.
  • Translate product and technical requirements into actionable engineering work with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Build and maintain project plans, timelines, and resource alignment across parallel initiatives.
  • Own release management, coordinating QA cycles, deployments, and production readiness with engineering leads.
Cross-Functional Communication & Alignment
  • Act as the primary interface between Engineering, Product, and Customer Success to ensure alignment on scope, priorities, and delivery expectations.
  • Facilitate technical design reviews, architecture discussions, and implementation planning sessions.
  • Maintain transparent status reporting, risk tracking, and milestone communication for stakeholders and leadership.
  • Influence outcomes without direct authority by building trust and driving alignment across teams.
Engineering Operations, Quality & Risk Management
  • Establish and continuously improve engineering workflows, documentation standards, and delivery practices as the organization scales.
  • Use delivery metrics and retrospective insights to drive ongoing process improvements.
  • Partner with engineering leads to monitor delivery risk, code quality, and technical debt.
  • Coordinate incident response and post-mortems, ensuring corrective actions are clearly owned and completed.
Requirements – Must-Haves
  • 5+ years of experience in technical project management, technical program management, or engineering management roles.
  • 3+ years of hands-on software engineering experience (backend, frontend, or full-stack).
  • Strong ability to read code, understand system architecture, and reason about engineering trade-offs.
  • Deep expertise in Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and sprint execution.
  • Experience managing cross-functional engineering teams (AI/ML, Backend, Frontend, DevOps).
  • Hands-on familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows, testing, and deployment practices.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization concepts.
  • Strong proficiency with project management tools (Jira, Linear, Asana, Monday.com).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of delivering complex software projects in fast-paced SaaS or startup environments.
Nice-to-Haves
  • Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or equivalent agile certification.
  • Ability to read code in Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Go.
  • Experience supporting AI/ML workflows, document processing, or data-intensive platforms.
  • Exposure to healthcare systems, ERP integrations, or enterprise third-party integrations.
  • Experience supporting engineering hiring, onboarding, or team scaling initiatives.
