A Brief Overview

The Executive Director, Data Management Operations is the senior operational leader responsible for executing and continuously improving RGA's investment data management and quality function. This role owns the day-to-day operational performance of the team — covering standardized data structure creation and maintenance, cash flow data setup and management, data quality rule implementation and monitoring, position reconciliation and exception management, and asset classification governance.

The Executive Director is accountable for ensuring that investment data is accurate, consistent, and fit for downstream consumption across all Investment Operations, Investment Accounting, Portfolio Management, Risk, and Compliance functions — and that data quality issues are identified, escalated, and resolved with rigor and speed.

What you will do

  • Own the day-to-day operational execution of the investment data management and quality function, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and fitness for downstream consumption.
  • Oversee end-to-end SMF creation and maintenance operations, ensuring standardized data structures, reference attributes, and cash flow schedules are accurate and current across all investment domains.
  • Govern asset taxonomy and classification standards, ensuring consistent application, auditability, and alignment with downstream reporting and regulatory requirements.
  • Own the implementation and monitoring of data quality rules and exception thresholds across investment data domains, ensuring timely escalation and resolution of issues.
  • Oversee position reconciliation operations, ensuring breaks are identified, investigated, documented, and resolved through structured and time-bound workflows.
  • Monitor and report on data quality exception trends, reconciliation break aging, and resolution timeliness, driving continuous improvement in data integrity.
  • Maintain a robust control framework across data management workflows, supporting audit readiness and strong governance discipline.
  • Serve as the primary operational point of contact for Investment Accounting, Portfolio Management, Risk, Compliance, and Technology on data quality, classification, and reconciliation matters.
  • Lead and develop Directors, Senior Analysts, Analysts, and Associates, setting clear performance expectations and building a culture of data discipline and accountability.
  • Drive process improvement and automation initiatives, contributing functional requirements and execution ownership to platform transformation and system integration efforts.

Education and Experience
Required

  • Bachelor's degree required; Finance, Accounting, Economics, Information Systems, or related field AND
  • 10+ years of progressive investment operations or data management experience with deep specialization in investment reference data, data quality governance, or position reconciliation within an insurance company, asset manager, reinsurer, or large institutional investment organization.

OR

  • Master’s, MBA, ASA, or FSA AND
  • 5+ years of progressive investment operations or data management experience with deep specialization in investment reference data, data quality governance, or position reconciliation within an insurance company, asset manager, reinsurer, or large institutional investment organization.
  • Demonstrated expertise managing investment SMF structures, data quality rule frameworks, and position reconciliation operations across multi-asset class portfolios.
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience, including managing Directors or senior data management specialists.
  • Proven track record partnering with technology teams on data architecture decisions, integration standards, and quality framework implementation.

Preferred

  • CFA, CPA, or advanced degree

Skills and Abilities

Required

Technical & Functional Knowledge

  • Deep knowledge of investment reference data management — SMF structures, cash flow schedules, counterparty data, security master maintenance, and asset classification standards.
  • Strong understanding of data quality governance — rule definition, exception threshold setting, monitoring, and resolution workflow management across investment data domains.
  • Familiarity with investment data platforms, data governance tools, and position reconciliation systems used in institutional investment organizations.
  • Working knowledge of investment data architecture concepts — lineage, ownership models, integration patterns, and quality standards across operational and reporting systems.

Leadership & Competencies

  • Data-discipline leader — sets high standards for reference data accuracy, quality control, and reconciliation resolution and holds the team accountable to those standards.
  • Strong cross-functional partner — effective with Technology, Accounting, Risk, Compliance, and senior investment leadership on data quality and governance decisions.
  • Clear communicator capable of translating data quality issues and governance gaps into concise, actionable reporting for senior stakeholders.
  • Strong people developer with the ability to build data discipline and analytical depth within the team.
