Location: This is a remote position. While qualified candidates from any location will be considered, preference will be given to candidates who reside within approximately a two-hour drive of New Braunfels, Texas, to support periodic in-person meetings and business needs.

About the Role 

The Executive Director of Safety & Compliance is responsible for establishing, enforcing, and continuously improving the organization’s safety, regulatory compliance, and risk management systems. This role provides enterprise-level oversight of all safety initiatives and ensures operations comply with all applicable legal, regulatory, and internal standards.

The position serves as the central authority for safety performance, compliance assurance, and incident prevention, with direct influence over operational decision-making, field execution standards, and leadership accountability.

Location: Remote

Travel: Up to 50%

Key Responsibilities

Safety Strategy & Governance

  • Develop and implement an enterprise-wide safety strategy aligned with operational objectives.
  • Establish standardized safety policies, procedures, and controls across all business units.
  • Define and enforce safety performance metrics (e.g., TRIR, LTIR, near-miss reporting rates).
  • Serve as the escalation authority for high-risk operations and stop-work decisions.

Regulatory Compliance Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., OSHA, DOT, environmental standards).
  • Maintain a comprehensive compliance framework, including audits, inspections, documentation, and corrective action tracking.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies during inspections, inquiries, and enforcement actions.
  • Oversee licensing, certifications, and required reporting across all operational domains.

Risk Management and Mitigation

  • Identify, assess, and prioritize operational and enterprise risks.
  • Implement risk mitigation strategies integrated into operational planning and execution.
  • Lead enterprise hazard analysis processes (e.g., JHAs, risk registers, pre-task planning).
  • Embed risk-informed decision-making is across all levels of the organization.

Incident Management & Investigation

  • Lead investigations into serious incidents, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are completed.
  • Standardize incident reporting protocols and timelines.
  • Analyze trends and systemic issues, translating findings into preventive controls.
  • Report significant incidents and risk exposures to executive leadership.

Training & Competency Development

  • Establish safety training standards and certification requirements across all roles.
  • Ensure field personnel are trained, qualified, and compliant before and during deployments.
  • Develop leadership accountability programs to reinforce safety ownership.
  • Promote a culture of proactive safety engagement and continuous improvement.

Audit & Continuous Improvement

  • Design and execute internal audit programs to assess compliance and safety
    performance.
  • Lead corrective and preventive action (CAPA) processes.
  • Benchmark against industry best practices and continuously elevate standards.
  • Implement systems that provide real-time visibility into safety and compliance performance.

Cross-Functional Integration

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to embed safety into all workflows.
  • Integrate safety and compliance requirements into asset deployment, maintenance, and field operations.
  • Support business development by ensuring compliance readiness for contracts and proposals.
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Health, or related field.
  • 10-15+ years of progressive leadership in safety and compliance.
  • Proven success in high-risk, field-based operations (e.g., construction, energy, logistics, emergency response).
  • Deep knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and environmental regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience leading large, distributed teams and multi-site operations.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting incident investigations and implementing corrective actions.
  • Experience scaling safety programs across geographically dispersed operations.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHST).
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and operational systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive operational and client information with discretion.
