Why this role matters: 

In recent years Vonage has embarked on an ambitious and exciting growth strategy which has led to a significant transformation of the business and most recently, it led to the acquisition by global Telco powerhouse Ericsson.  

Vonage is  looking to hire a full-time expert legal counsel focused on providing Legal support to our global Carrier Management Team (CMT).

Your key responsibilities:
  • Provide specialist legal advice to developers/engineers/architects/product managers/product marketing managers/corporate marketing/events relating to the development of products and solutions from identification to implementation, including preparation of appropriate contract templates
  • Develop and support customer-friendly, compliant, and risk-appropriate templates for products and solutions that align with the requirements of internal Vonage teams, including Product, Commercial, Privacy, Regulatory, and Compliance, and that incorporate supplier flow-down terms;
  • Serve as the Legal Department’s subject matter expert in relation to Vonage products 
  • Collaborate with product and legal/compliance to ensure E2E support for Vonage products and services.
  • Provide legal guidance on risk-mitigation and disputes relating to, and other management of, traffic that is phishing or smishing-related, unsolicited, artificially-inflated or otherwise fraudulent or deceptive 
  • Report to the Head of Products, Partnerships, & Procurement as part of the Legal team.
  • Negotiate with major MNOs and MVNOs and other sophisticated suppliers
  • Be comfortable working with international counterparties across diverse jurisdictions.
  • Possess a strong understanding of the Global telecoms regulatory landscape as well as consumer regulatory matters, antitrust, and Intellectual Property and the commercial implications of each.
  • Work with internal teams (e.g., carrier, sourcing, privacy, product, security, regulatory, compliance) to mitigate the risk to the business and develop practical solutions and strategies to ensure the effective management of our suppliers, carrier partners, and aggregators.
  • Enhance and standardize contract templates, processes, and procedures for a global framework that enables effective E2E management of suppliers, aggregators, and carrier partners.
What you’ll bring:
  • Admitted to at least one state bar in the US (or UK-qualified solicitor or barrister in the UK) with 7+ years post-bar admission/qualification experience
  • Strong in-house legal experience with fast-paced, sales-driven tech, telecom, SaaS, or cloud communications companies.
  • Significant experience in advising product organizations across the product lifecycle
  • Proven ability to manage complex, high-pressure transactions, particularly with MNOs and other carrier partners and suppliers.
  • Skilled in navigating cross-functional reviews and approvals in matrixed organizations 
  • General knowledge of data privacy laws (including GDPR) with experience integrating compliance into commercial work.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, verbal/written communication, and diplomacy to drive consensus.
  • Proactive, self-motivated team player with proven multitasking and stakeholder management skills.
  • High integrity with a commitment to ethical standards and effective transactional leadership.
  • Business-oriented mindset with strong acumen, problem-solving and project management skills.
