Position Summary

Otovo is seeking a skilled and dependable Field Service Technician to join our growing renewable energy team in Austin, TX. In this role, you'll service, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair residential and commercial solar energy systems, battery storage solutions, and generators.

This position is ideal for an experienced electrical professional who enjoys hands-on technical work, solving complex problems, and delivering exceptional customer service while supporting the transition to clean energy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair solar panels, inverters, batteries, generators, and related equipment

  • Perform preventive maintenance including panel cleaning, wiring inspections, inverter testing, and battery health assessments

  • Commission new systems and upgrades while ensuring compliance with NEC, AHJ, and utility requirements

  • Utilize diagnostic tools such as multimeters, clamp meters, and thermal imaging equipment

  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and photo documentation

  • Follow all safety procedures including PPE usage, lockout/tagout processes, and fall protection requirements

  • Respond to emergency service calls and warranty-related repairs as needed

  • Communicate effectively with homeowners and customers regarding system status and repair recommendations

  • Represent Otovo professionally at customer sites

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 4+ years of electrical experience

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

  • Strong understanding of NEC, AHJ, and utility interconnection requirements

  • Ability to read electrical schematics and technical drawings

  • Experience using electrical diagnostic equipment

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to climb ladders and work on rooftops

  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • Strong communication and customer service skills

  • Willingness to travel locally and work overtime as needed

  • State-required electrical certification or license (Journeyman, Wireman, or equivalent)

Nice to Have

  • Solar PV installation or service experience

  • Battery storage experience

  • Generator service experience

  • NABCEP Certification

  • Generator training or certification

  • Commercial solar system experience

  • Trade school or technical education
