The Finance and Business Operations Lead will manage financial operations, vendor relationships, compliance, and build operational processes for a high-growth startup.
Bluesky's vision is to make social more like the web itself. We're building a social media app, but beyond that, we've created a protocol that supports a broad ecosystem of applications and clients. Imagine a network of applications — from microblogging to photos to video to long-form writing — all interconnected and accessible with a shared identity.
About the Role:
We're looking for a Finance & Business Operations Lead to own the financial and business infrastructure at Bluesky. You'll be the person who keeps the business itself healthy: finances, compliance, vendors, legal coordination, and the stewardship work that protects the company's ability to operate.
Key Responsibilities:
Tools & Vendor Administration
- Support tool procurement and onboarding, and maintain ongoing vendor relationships in partnership with the teams those vendors serve
- Research and analyze vendors, tools, and partners relevant to strategic initiatives; bring structured recommendations to leadership
- Track subscription costs, flag redundancies, and manage renewals proactively
Financial Operations
- Track budgets across teams, approving reimbursements, and flag variances before they become problems
- Prepare financial reporting support, investor reporting, and board materials in coordination with the Strategy & Operations Senior Manager and COO
- Manage invoice routing and expense reconciliation in coordination with our Operations Admin and our fractional finance team
- Coordinate with the Recruiting team, our fractional finance team, and members of the leadership team to develop funding plans for headcount to support company strategy
Business Stewardship
- Build automations and AI integrations into processes, where appropriate
- Own business insurance end-to-end, including managing annual renewal cycles across all policy types (D&O, E&O, general liability, cyber, and others), maintain broker relationships, ensure applications are accurate, flag coverage gaps proactively
- Coordinate with partners on tax compliance ensuring deadlines are met
- Serve as a part of the broader Operations team to support cross-functional work
You might be a great fit if you:
- Have 6-8 years of operations experience at a high-growth startup, with significant time spent building 0 → 1 process
- Thinks AI-first and aims to leverage technology to solve scaling challenges
- Think in systems: when you see a recurring problem, you build something that makes it not recur
- Can hold strategic and operational work simultaneously and understand working on a small team requires both
- Are comfortable operating in a high agency, low ego environment where we move quickly and focus on results
- Have owned vendor relationships and financial operations with enough depth to not need hand-holding on routine decisions
We're especially excited if you have:
- Experience representing an operations function to leadership or cross-functional stakeholders
- Familiarity with Ramp, Quickbooks, Rippling, Ironclad, Linear, Notion, Zapier, or similar tools
- Background spanning operational systems, vendor management, and financial operations
- Experience building operational infrastructure in a company that didn't have it yet
