Act as the JD-systems bridge: establish client trust in AI, support commercial sales, design legal decision workflows, and lead evaluation teams of paralegals/nurse consultants to validate audit-ready AI outputs.

The Opportunity

Complex litigation is the ultimate test of human cognition. We are building the AI that passes it. When a law firm handles a case with tens of thousands of pages of records and conflicting timelines, case law, rules, and regulations specific to the case type, precision is not optional; it is the difference between a fair outcome and a catastrophic one. Our AI reads, reasons, and references across these massive corpora and the case law to produce audit-ready work product. We are fundamentally redefining the mechanics of how the world’s top law firms win cases.

We have moved past the initial experimental phase. With paying customers, a product in production, and a growing pipeline, we are ready to scale our vision. However, the legal industry is historically slower to adopt novel technology. To bridge the gap between frontier AI and the partner track, we need more than a salesperson. We need a peer.

As our Founding Legal Engineer, you will be the institutional "quality stamp" that establishes absolute trust with our clients. You are the translator who can walk into a room of skeptical partners and explain not just what our AI does, but how it aligns with their ethical and procedural standards. You are joining to institutionalize the trust we place in defense firms by showing them, rather than telling them, that we truly are their partner.

The Role

You are a JD who thinks in systems. You understand the visceral pain of document review because you have done it, but unlike most lawyers, you are obsessed with efficiency and logic. You are the "power user" who always found a faster way to get the work done.

You will wear three hats:

  1. Commercial Authority: You will partner with Account Executives to close major deals. You are the peer in the room who establishes credibility with Managing Partners and General Counsels.

  2. Workflow Architect: You will translate legal complexity into logical product flows. You won't write code, but you will define the step-by-step reasoning logic our AI must follow to satisfy a senior associate.

  3. Evaluation Leader: You will lead and organize our internal team of legal specialists (nurses, paralegals, and reviewers) to test, grade, and validate the AI's output, ensuring our quality standards never slip.

The Fluency Stack

  • Legal: Deep experience in complex litigation, civil procedure, and the mechanics of defense law firms.

  • Systems Thinking: You are highly tech-savvy and organized. You can map out a complex legal decision tree on a whiteboard better than most Product Managers.

  • Leadership: Experience managing or directing the work of paralegals, nurse consultants, or junior associates.

  • Commercial: Ability to navigate high-stakes meetings with Managing Partners and explain technology without jargon.

Who Thrives Here

You are a rare hybrid. You started your career in law but found yourself frustrated by the inefficiency of the billable hour.

  • You have a J.D. and Practice Experience: You have billed hours. You know what the day-to-day is like and why missing a citation matters.

  • You are a Tech Power User: You don't need to know how to code, but you are the person colleagues call when they can't figure out complex software. You love tools that automate manual work.

  • You are a Credibility Builder: When you speak, lawyers listen because you speak their language, not marketing fluff.

  • You are an Owner: You do not wait for a meeting to be set up; you drive the relationship and the strategy.

  • (Optional): You have experience managing document review teams or nurse consultants.

  • (Bonus) You are curious about AI and excited to learn how to leverage it in your workflow to move faster and smarter.

How We Work

We’re not just building AI for lawyers; we’re building an AI-native company. That means high output per person, humans and AI collaborating across every function, and a bias toward automation over headcount. You’ll work alongside AI daily to synthesize research, draft documentation, and move faster than teams twice our size.

We give direct feedback, we move quickly, and we trust people to own their work. If you need the slow pace and hierarchy of a traditional law firm, this is not the right seat. If you thrive with autonomy and want to build the future of your former profession, let's talk.

🚀 Why Us

We are past the "will this work?" phase. Our system is in production with customers who depend on it for high-stakes cases. As the founding hire in this role, you will define the function from scratch.

  • Be the Bridge: You are the missing link between the world's most advanced AI engineers and the country's most prestigious trial lawyers.

  • Establish the Brand: You will report directly to the CEO to define how our brand communicates trust and competence.

  • No Bureaucracy: Work with a team that values speed and truth over process.

  • Mission-Critical Work: Every workflow you help sell and implement moves fairness closer to people who cannot afford delays.

What We Offer

  • Competitive base + meaningful early-stage equity + benefits

  • Full health, dental, and vision coverage

  • Remote-first flexibility across the US

  • Firsthand access to frontier models and the agency to explore new legal use cases

  • The chance to revolutionize the industry you came from
