Freelance field researchers will visit cafes, markets, and vendors to test PayMoji scanning of local QR codes, document cash vs digital usage, observe merchant reactions, and report usability and on-the-ground payment barriers while living or traveling in-country.
The summary above was generated by AI

About the Opportunity: Whether you are backpacking 🎒through Vietnam, island-hopping in the Philippines, or living that slow-travel life in Thailand, you know the daily routine: grabbing street food, bargaining at local markets, and renting scooters. You also know the exact moment the fun stops—when you run out of cash, can't find an ATM 🏧, or get hit with massive withdrawal fees.

We are building PayMoji, an app that lets travelers ditch the bulky wallets and pay like a local using native QR codes across Southeast Asia 🌏. To make sure it works seamlessly in the real world, we need eyes and ears on the ground 👀👂. We are looking for observant, street-savvy travelers to help us map out exactly how people spend money in the cities you are already exploring 🗺️.

We are looking to work with people in Vietnam and the Philippines but will open soon to Thailand 🇹🇭and Cambodia 🇰🇭. Feel free to reach out to us in advance!

What You Will Do

  • Hit the Streets: Go about your normal day, visit cafes ☕, night markets, and local vendors and document the payment experience.

  • Test in the Wild: Use PayMoji to scan local QR codes where you eat, shop, and travel, reporting back on how smoothly (or not) the transaction goes 📲.

  • Map the Market: Help us understand the local cash-versus-digital dynamics. Which vendors accept QR? Where is cash still king? 👑 What are the biggest physical barriers to paying digitally in your current city?

  • Gather On-the-Ground Intel: Observe and document how local merchants react to foreign travelers using local digital payment methods 🤝.

Who We Are Looking For

  • The Authentic Traveler: You must have a true understanding of being a traveler or digital nomad. We need you to empathize with our users and possess a deep customer understanding, because you live this reality every day 🌅.

  • Naturally Curious: You enjoy interacting with locals 🧐, asking questions, and noticing the small details about how a city functions.

  • Self-Motivated: 🚀 You can manage a simple research brief independently and provide clear, honest feedback from the road.

Why Collaborate With Us

  • 💰Earn While Exploring: This is a project-based, freelance role. You do not need to sit at a desk; your "office" is the market, the cafe, or the hostel.

  • 🧘‍♂️No Disruption to Your Lifestyle: Complete your tasks while doing the things you were already planning to do today.

  • 🚪Open Possibilities: As PayMoji grows across Southeast Asia, delivering great on-the-ground insights can easily lead to more project opportunities or ongoing collaboration.

How to Apply 📝

  1. Send us a short bio about who you are, where you come from, what you are doing in SouthEast Asia, and why you would be interested to work with PayMoji. 💌

  2. Share one quick story about the most annoying cash or payment issue you have experienced on your current trip. 😤

  3. Check out the app: from your point of view if you had to improve / change / modify 1 thing, what would it be?
