About the Company

ThirdLaw is building the control layer for AI in the enterprise. As companies rush to adopt LLMs and AI agents, they face new safety, compliance, and operational risks that traditional security and observability tools were never designed to detect. Logs and metrics don’t capture when a model makes a bad decision, leaks sensitive data, or behaves unpredictably.

We help IT and Security teams answer the foundational question: "Is this OK?" and take real-time action when it’s not.

Backed by top-tier venture firms and trusted by forward-looking enterprise design partners, we’re building the infrastructure to monitor, evaluate, and control AI behavior in real-world environments, at runtime, where it matters. If you're excited to build systems that help AI work as intended, and stop it when it doesn’t, we’d love to meet you.

About the role:

AI is reshaping software development, enterprise knowledge management, and the way work gets done. By giving IT and Security professionals the tools to make sure AI is doing everything it should, and nothing it shouldn’t, you’ll be enabling the safest path to a wave of incredible AI-powered innovation.  This role is responsible for putting a clear, clean face on all of the ideas our team is bringing to life.

What you’ll be doing:

  • You’ll work within a small but mighty team of AI engineers and backend engineers to build and maintain application features for AI-native platform.

  • Every day, you will build new and innovative product features. Most of them ground up, from scratch, with your impact as clear as day. We value building high quality application experiences.

  • Start-up responsibility; you are the first and often last stop on whether a feature is good or great.

Skills and Qualities you’ll need to bring

  • Ability to ship quality apps at scale: You have experience working with a team to build and maintain quality apps for an opinionated data-driven enterprise audience. You're familiar with Typescript, React and have handled UI, networking, and threading.

  • Thoughtful problem-solving: For you, problem-solving starts with a clear and accurate understanding of the context. You can decompose tricky problems and work towards a clean solution, by yourself or with teammates. You're comfortable asking for help when you get stuck.

  • Pragmatic and business-oriented: You care about business impact and prioritize projects accordingly. You're not just going after cool stuff—you understand the balance between craft, speed, and the bottom line. You put users first.

  • Detailed and specific communication: You communicate nuanced ideas clearly, whether you're explaining technical decisions in writing or brainstorming in real time. In disagreements, you engage thoughtfully with other perspectives and compromise when needed.

  • AI-first: Interest and willingness to learn concepts in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep neural networks. You are excited about the possibilities of LLMs.

Nice-to-have:

  • Ideally, you live in the bay area or want to be here enough to collaborate in person sometimes, but we are able to work with anyone in the continental United States.

Join us as we pursue our mission to unlock the boundless possibilities of generative AI by ensuring AI trust and safety. We're looking for people who bring thoughtful ideas and aren't afraid to challenge the norm. Our team is small and focused, valuing autonomy and real impact over titles and management. We need strong technical skills, a proactive mindset, and clear written communication, as much of our work is asynchronous. Our product is new and operates in a rapidly changing ecosystem of generative AI; we are builders with the ability to dispatch ambiguity to solve customer pain. If you're organized, take initiative, and want to work closely with customers to shape our products, you'll fit in well here.
