Senior Full Stack Engineer - R&D

Panoptyc is looking for a versatile Senior Full Stack Engineer to power our R&D initiatives, expand our integration ecosystem, and rapidly prototype new capabilities that push our platform forward.

About the Role

You’ll be the technical backbone of our R&D team, building prototypes that validate new ideas, integrating with diverse point-of-sale systems, and maintaining the infrastructure that keeps our innovation moving fast. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on variety, loves solving integration puzzles, and can move from proof-of-concept to production-ready code.

What You’ll Do
  • Build & Iterate: Rapidly prototype new features and capabilities, turning research ideas into working systems that demonstrate real value

  • POS Integration: Design and implement integrations with various point-of-sale systems - each with their own quirks, APIs, and data formats

  • Backend Development: Build robust Node.js services that handle data ingestion, processing, and API orchestration

  • Database Design: Architect and optimize Postgres schemas for performance and scalability as our data needs evolve

  • DevOps & Infrastructure: Own deployment pipelines, monitoring, and infrastructure-as-code to keep our R&D environment reliable and fast

  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with computer vision engineers, product managers, and customers to understand requirements and deliver solutions

Required Skills
  • Strong Node.js experience - you’re fluent in modern JavaScript/TypeScript and understand async patterns, event-driven architecture, and building scalable services

  • Postgres expertise - schema design, query optimization, indexing strategies, and performance tuning are second nature

  • DevOps proficiency - comfortable with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.)

  • API integration experience - you’ve dealt with REST APIs, webhooks, authentication flows, and the inevitable edge cases that come with third-party integrations

  • Full stack capability - while backend-focused, you can work across the stack when needed and aren’t afraid of frontend code

  • Prototype mindset - you know when to move fast and when to build for durability, balancing speed with quality

  • AWS experience - you know how to run workloads on AWS services like EC2, Fargate, ECS, Lambda, Bedrock, Sagemaker etc…

  • Frontend skills (Angular, React, or similar)

  • .NET Core development experience

Nice to Have
  • Experience with POS systems (Toast, Clover, NCR, Verifone, etc.) or retail tech

  • Message queue experience (RabbitMQ, SQS)

  • Time series databases or analytics infrastructure

  • Previous R&D or innovation team experience

  • Background in IoT or edge computing integrations

  • Experience with vector and graph db’s especially on Postgres

Technical Environment

You’ll work with: Node.js/TypeScript, Postgres, Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, AWS, Heroku, and whatever else makes sense to get the job done.

What We Value
  • Pragmatism over perfection - shipping working prototypes beats endless planning

  • Curiosity - you ask “why” and “what if” regularly

  • Ownership - you see projects through from conception to deployment

  • Communication - you can explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders

  • Adaptability - R&D means pivots, changing priorities, and exploring new territories

Location: Remote

Compensation: Up to $60 USD/hr (based on location/region)
