About the company
Kodex revolutionizes how organizations handle sensitive subpoenas and data requests from law enforcement and government agencies. Founded by a former FBI agent and backed by leading investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Y Combinator, and Thiel Capital, Kodex has become the industry standard for secure data exchange. Our platform supports over 15,000 government agencies in 190 countries and is trusted by industry leaders like Coinbase, Stripe, and AT&T.
By transforming a traditionally complex and manual process into a streamlined digital workflow, Kodex helps organizations strengthen compliance, enhance security, and reduce operational costs by millions each year. We bridge the gap between companies and authorized requestors, ensuring that sensitive data is handled with uncompromising security, transparency, and efficiency.

About the Role

We're seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer to help build the cornerstone of our business: our Law Enforcement Response portal. You'll join a small, experienced team with backgrounds at companies like Medium, HashiCorp, Microsoft, Mozilla, Meta, Palantir and Uber.

This is an ideal role for full-stack generalists who thrive in fast-paced environments, enjoy solving hard technical problems, and want to own meaningful projects end to end.

As an early engineer, you’ll wear many hats and help shape the future of our product, our codebase, and our culture.

What You’ll Do

You’ll work closely with our Director of Product and fellow engineers to design, develop, and ship high-impact features across the stack. Upcoming projects include:

  • Building threat detection and law enforcement verification systems used by some of the world’s largest companies

  • Launching new product verticals such as customer reimbursement workflows for time spent responding to legal requests

  • Driving performance optimizations across the system — from database tuning and encryption middleware to frontend responsiveness

  • Participating in on-call rotations (roughly one week every two months) to maintain system reliability and respond to incidents

  • Raising the bar on engineering quality through architectural improvements, testing infrastructure, and thoughtful refactoring

You Might Be a Fit If You...

  • Have 4+ years of full-stack web development experience

  • Are strong in TypeScript, Node, and React

  • Understand the full web application lifecycle, from database design to frontend performance

  • Have built and shipped products in fast-paced, high-ownership environments

  • Can ramp up quickly — our typical on-ramp period is around two weeks

  • Value pragmatism, autonomy, and a customer-first mindset

Bonus: Experience in security, compliance, or high-scale data systems is a plus.

Engineering at Kodex

We care deeply about the software we build — because our work protects real people. Kodex plays a critical role in helping major companies respond securely and transparently to sensitive data requests from law enforcement, enabling both privacy protection and public safety. Our engineering culture is built on trust, autonomy, and technical rigor. Our engineers:

  • Own projects end to end

  • Collaborate without ego

  • Invest in quality and velocity

  • Act as force-multipliers for one another

This is a place where the best idea wins, and your work has real impact, every day.

Our Stack

  • Frontend: TypeScript, React, GraphQL, Material UI

  • Backend: Node.js, TypeScript, Prisma, and PostgreSQL. We’re hosted on AWS.

  • We’re also working on cutting-edge projects using Go and AWS Nitro Enclaves to advance data security.

Benefits

  • Remote-first within the U.S.

  • Biannual offsites in exciting locations. Past trips include Seattle, Miami, Nashville, and San Francisco

  • Competitive salary and meaningful equity

  • Unlimited PTO + 14 company holidays

  • 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave, with a flexible return-to-work policy

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans

  • 401(k) retirement plan

  • Dynamic Environment: Work on impactful, high-priority matters with opportunities for professional growth.

Equal Employment Opportunities at the Company

Kodex is committed to hiring talented and qualified individuals with diverse backgrounds for all of its tech, non-tech, and leadership roles. Kodex believes that the gathering and celebration of unique backgrounds, qualities, and cultures enriches the workplace.
