What is Ansible Health?

We're a Series A Health-Tech startup backed by Bessemer, First Round Capital, AlleyCorp, Breyer Capital, B-Capital, Inflect Capital, Gaingels, D. E. Shaw & Co, and a few amazing angels. Our medical group cares for patients directly, and we leverage technology to make that care possible at scale. As a result, we use a ton of automation and machine learning to make ours and our patients' lives easier. We also publish groundbreaking research in leading journals like Nature and PLOS, demonstrating our commitment to innovation. We're not just building software; we're building a better way to deliver healthcare. We're partnering with leading healthcare systems nationwide, and our mission is to genuinely improve patient outcomes, not just optimize metrics. If you're passionate about transforming healthcare through technology, join our diverse team in making a real impact.

The Role at a Glance

As a Junior to Early Mid-Level Full Stack Software Engineer specializing in backend and Android development at our AI-driven healthcare startup, you’ll tackle challenges like integrating advanced AI and LLM features, automating data workflows, and building robust solutions. Backend and Android experience, particularly with Kotlin, is a plus. You’ll collaborate closely with a diverse group of stakeholders—Product Managers, Clinicians, Tech Ops, and Customer Service Representatives—to create scalable, secure, and compliant applications handling sensitive healthcare data.

Our tech environment centers around C#, Python, and Microsoft Azure. We leverage tools like n8n for automation and are pushing the boundaries with ML and LLM stacks (Azure’s AI services, Bedrock, OpenAI, Claude, Vertex). You’ll have the opportunity to learn and grow quickly in a fast-paced startup setting that encourages innovation.

We’re Looking For Someone Who Is:

  • Hungry & Curious: Excited by complex challenges, eager to learn new technologies, and thrive outside of the comfort zone.

  • Technical & Adaptable: Understanding of backend and Android development with Kotlin. Familiarity with C#, Python, cloud infrastructures (Azure), and workflow tools (n8n). Exposure to ML platforms and LLM integration is a plus.

  • Startup-Ready: Comfortable with rapid iteration, ambiguity, and shifting priorities in a high-growth environment.

  • Mission-Driven: Motivated by the potential to positively impact patient outcomes and improve healthcare.

Key Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree is a plus.

  • Programming Languages: Familiarity with C#, Python, and Kotlin. Hands-on experience with modern frameworks, APIs, and full-stack development is a plus.

  • Cloud & Infrastructure: Exposure to Microsoft Azure services (Compute, Storage, Databases). Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) knowledge is a bonus.

  • Automation & Workflows: Understanding of workflow automation tools like n8n or equivalent platforms.

  • AI/ML & LLMs: Basic-to-intermediate experience integrating AI/ML features—such as Azure Cognitive Services, Bedrock, OpenAI, Claude, or Vertex—into applications.

  • Security & Compliance: Awareness of data security best practices and the importance of compliance frameworks (e.g., HIPAA) in healthcare.

  • Collaboration & Communication: Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work alongside product teams, clinicians, and other engineers.

  • Location: Must be based in New York, with the ability to collaborate on-site as needed.

Additional Requirements for More Junior Candidates (0-2 Years):

  • Top-Tier Education: Must have graduated from a top 10 Computer Science program (e.g., MIT, Stanford, UC Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon, etc.).

  • Portfolio of Projects: Possession of an active GitHub repository demonstrating ML projects or contributions to open-source projects. Projects should showcase your ability to implement machine learning algorithms, work with data, and integrate ML models into applications.

For Early Mid-Level Candidates (3-5 Years):

  • Professional Experience: 3-5 years of software engineering experience, ideally in a startup or similarly fast-paced environment.

  • Advanced Skills: Demonstrated expertise in C# and Python, with a track record of building scalable, maintainable backend systems. Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and advanced cloud services is preferred.

In This Role, You Will:

  • Build and maintain core backend services in C#, Python, and Android applications using Kotlin, supporting our AI-driven healthcare solutions.

  • Integrate advanced AI and LLM capabilities into key product features and workflows.

  • Utilize n8n (or similar tools) to automate data pipelines and operational processes.

  • Work with the product and compliance teams to ensure data integrity, security, and adherence to healthcare regulations.

  • Participate in architectural discussions, brainstorming sessions, and code reviews—helping to shape our technology roadmap and improve our development processes.

  • Continuously refine code, infrastructure, and workflows to support rapid growth, adaptability, and innovation.

Type of Role

Full-time: 40 hours a week, with benefits.

Level: Mid-Career, 3-5 years relevant work experience

Location: Remote (New York City-based)
