The Opportunity

As a dedicated General Lines Account Manager I (Intermediate), you will work within established guidelines while exercising increased independence and judgment to advise business owners and commercial clients on risk management strategies, insurance program design, coverage analysis, and tailored commercial insurance solutions. Leverages commercial insurance products and marketplace expertise to address complex risk exposures, evaluate coverage needs, and develop customized risk management solutions. Secures appropriate coverage by utilizing advanced knowledge of the insurance marketplace, carrier relationships, underwriting guidelines, and policy structures.

Start date for this position is October 18th.

  • 14 weeks of virtual training 8:00am – 4:30pm CT
  • Work schedule after training with be 9:30am – 6:00pm CT.

This role is remote eligible in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel.

What you'll do:

  • Utilizes a consultative approach to determine customer needs, build rapport, and provide solutions across 10 or more potential carriers, including USAA, to offer options and fulfill specific member needs and exposures.
  • Build and maintain relationships between members, nonmembers and insurance carriers, exercising effective technical knowledge and communication skills.
  • Classifies members’ and/or non-members’ business and provides accurate risk management and risk mitigation solutions.
  • Completes periodic multi-tiered account reviews, by leveraging the carrier renewal cycle, understanding the members' and nonmembers' risk profile, and providing consultative advice that appropriately addresses and mitigates complex risks, while acting as a single point of contact.
  • Partners and negotiates with underwriters on endorsements, renewal questions, and remarkets for underwriting determination, leveraging advanced knowledge of Carrier guidelines and processes.
  • Provides select account service including policy changes, certificates, endorsements, renewals, non-renewals and remarkets, cancellations, reinstatements, and record updates within agency systems.
  • Works with underwriters on complex accounts across multiple product lines and segments (including management lines, Middle Market, National Accounts and Excess and Surplus) or new business, renewals, endorsements, and remarketing.
  • May be assigned a dedicated book of business or individual accounts to own outcomes throughout the policy life cycle including audit, inspection, servicing, account reviews and non-renewals.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.

What you have:

  • 2 years of experience managing, retaining, servicing, and expanding commercial insurance relationships in an agency or broker setting.
  • Demonstrated product and underwriting knowledge.
  • Demonstrated experience calculating Insurance to Value (ITV) across a wide range of commercial property types and structures.
  • Proficient communication and negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.
  • Demonstrated success meeting or exceeding new business sales goals in a commercial insurance environment.
  • Experience developing and managing a sales pipeline.
  • Ability to uncover customer needs through consultative conversations.
  • Experience identifying cross-sell, referral, and account growth opportunities.
  • Demonstrated follow-up discipline and lead management.
  • Experience documenting customer interactions in CRM systems and effectively managing opportunities through the sales cycle.
  • Experience working in a goal-oriented sales environment with individual performance expectations.
  • Valid General Lines Insurance License for home state and/or ability to obtain home state and multistate licenses within 90 days.

What sets you apart:

  • 4+ years of commercial insurance account management experience in an agency, brokerage, or carrier environment.
  • Strong understanding of commercial insurance coverages including property, general liability, commercial auto, workers' compensation, umbrella, and related commercial products.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain trusted customer relationships while serving as the primary point of contact.
  • Experience quoting, binding, underwriting renewals, processing new business, and managing policy renewals.
  • Demonstrated success in customer retention, account rounding, cross-selling, and referral generation.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to research and resolve complex coverage.
  • Experience managing complex accounts and multiple competing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions and successfully handle escalated customer situations.
  • US military experience gained through military service or as a military spouse/domestic partner.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $54,550.00- $97,750.00.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

 

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
