As the EMD Application Engineering Director, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Lead the Global Electrical Markets Division Application Engineering organization.

  • Define and execute the global application engineering strategy aligned with business and technology roadmaps

  • Partner with R&D, product management, marketing, sales, and operations to identify customer needs and convert them into scalable technical solutions.

  • Monitor industry trends, competitive technologies, and emerging laboratory application needs to inform innovation priorities.

  • Oversee application development, product validation support, demo protocols, and technical performance optimization.

  • Establish global processes, tools, and best practices for application engineering across regions and teams.

  • Develop key customer relationships

  • Support new product introduction by ensuring application readiness, technical documentation, and customer use-case validation.

  • Build and lead a high-performing global team, including hiring, coaching, succession planning, and capability development

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher completed and verified prior to start from an accredited institution.

  • Ten (10) years of experience in application engineering, laboratory technology, technical service, product development, or related leadership roles.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Master`s degree and /or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Engineering, or Material Science, from an accredited institution

  • Skills include ability to lead a global Application Engineering organization, influencing cross functional partners, communication with and across all levels, and proactive and self-driven leadership

  • Experience leading global or multi-regional technical teams.

  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional programs and influencing senior stakeholders.

  • Able to identify and gather customer insights and technology/product opportunities

  • Strong business acumen, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership capabilities.

Work location: This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Austin, TX.

Travel: May include up to 20% of domestic/international travel

Relocation Assistance: is authorized

This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
