About the Role: 

As our Group Creative Director, you'll report to our Executive Creative Director and help lead creative direction across Class Launches, campaigns, and product launches. You'll be hands-on, producing and elevating work across copy, design, and art direction, not just directing others' execution. Your conceptual vision and creative judgment will shape how we communicate with our global audience, and as our team structure evolves, you'll grow into a formal leadership role guiding a team of copywriters, designers, animators, editors, photographers, and art directors.


What You'll Do:

  • Lead and Inspire: Guide the creative vision and strategy for creative campaigns, products, and marketing communications. Inspire your team to push the boundaries of creativity and innovation.
  • Shape Our Voice: Write, define, and champion the tone and voice of marketing copy across various channels, ensuring consistency and authenticity. Delivering on-strategy, on-target, and on-brand messages and ensuring other writers are doing the same
  • Stay Hands-On: Personally produce and shape copy, design, and creative work, not just direct it, across Class Launches, campaigns, and product marketing.
  • Collaborate and Innovate: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including brand, performance marketing, enterprise, and product, to develop forward-thinking ideas and strategies.
  • Mentor and Grow: Develop and mentor a team of copywriters, designers, and art directors, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Direct and Oversee: Provide creative direction and oversight across copy, art direction, design, video, animation, and other creative disciplines.
  • Execute with Excellence: Deliver compelling, on-brand messages across all touchpoints, maintaining the highest quality standards and attention to detail.
  • Adapt and Evolve: Stay ahead of industry trends and continuously seek new ways to tell our story in a rapidly changing landscape.

What We're Looking For:

  • Conceptual Visionary: Proven ability to develop original creative concepts that deliver real business impact.
  • Sharp Creative Judgment: A track record of recognizing the strongest idea in the room and knowing how to push work further.
  • Hands-On Maker: Comfortable personally producing copy and design work, not solely directing others, versatile across disciplines.
  • Strategic Thinker: Able to translate strategic objectives into creative concepts that resonate, with an understanding of how creative connects to performance and conversion.
  • Collaborative Partner: Experience working closely with cross-functional teams, including Performance Marketing, to drive integrated efforts.
  • Visionary Leader: Proven experience leading creative teams across advertising, product, content, and creative strategy workstreams.
  • Dynamite Storyteller: Exceptional writing skills with the ability to craft compelling narratives across various forms and mediums.
  • Innovative Creator: A portfolio showcasing award-winning work and a knack for pushing creative boundaries.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in creative roles, with a focus on producing standout work for global brands.
  • Experience directing copy, art direction, design, video, animation, and other creative disciplines.
  • Demonstrated expertise in conceptual and strategically-led campaign development.
  • Experience in both agency and in-house environments.
  • Ability to prioritize and work well under pressure while maintaining speed and high attention to detail given shifting timelines, updates, and last-minute changes. Should have a strong operational mindset and vision for the team.
  • Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback across creative disciplines.
  • Strong presentation skills and attention to detail; presenting work on behalf of the team, explaining the creative vision, strategy and approach.
  • Experience developing and maintaining brand voice and tone guidelines.
  • Experience and understanding of performance marketing and its integration with creative strategy.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Versatility in writing styles and tones, from short-form brand advertising & performance copy to longer-form editorial content.

The salary range listed is for NYC/CA/WA. As a company, we have a location based strategy, which means the disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location where the position may be filled.

MasterClass’s salary ranges are based on paying competitively for our size and industry. In addition to salary, we also offer equity and comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision, flexible PTO, and more). The range listed is for the expectations as laid out in the job description, however we are often open to a wide variety of profiles, and recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted. If that ends up being the case, the updated salary range will be communicated with you as a candidate.
