The Head of Accounting will ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the accounting and finance operation, manage and preserve the Company’s assets, help drive execution and work alongside the CFO and other leadership as a strategic partner in the business.
The ideal candidate has a demonstrated history of solving multiple complex operational and accounting challenges.
While this role is remote, we are prioritizing candidates based in the Eastern or Central time zones (EST/CST).
Key Responsibilities
Leading the Accounting Team
- Manage the global Accounting team to process timely and accurately all aspects of accounting operations, including payroll, state and federal tax compliance/filings, billings, A/R, A/P, GL, expense reports, revenue recognition, reconciliations, and treasury activities
- Hire, mentor, train, and perform performance reviews for the accounting team
Financial Reporting & Annual Audit
- Own the timely and accurate completion of monthly, quarterly and annual close process
- Take responsibility for accuracy of the financial statements and management reports
- Become the subject matter expert of accounting pronouncements, including researching and recommending GAAP accounting treatment of financial statement matters
- Lead the year-end external annual audit
Design, Implement and Enforce Company Policies and Controls
- Set policies, processes and internal controls – identifying and driving process improvements
- Ensure overall compliance of policies and controls
- Own compliance administration, including regulatory filings, audit coordination, and maintenance of compliance documentation
- Own corporate administration in partnership with legal, including entity management, corporate records, board consents, and state filings
- Own equity administration, including cap table management, option grants and exercises, and coordination with payroll and legal
Streamline and Drive Operational Efficiencies
- Identify, recommend, and implement tools to drive process efficiencies
- Implement automation to ensure accounting scales with business growth
Serve as a Strategic Business Partner
- Serve as the point of escalation for team members and our internal and external customers
- Own and respond to customer diligence requests, including financial disclosures, audit materials, and compliance questionnaires
- Provide solutions that enable teams in meeting Company goals
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 8+ years of relevant work experience and strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
- CPA license
- 2+ years of Big 4 or public accounting experience preferred
- Proficient in ERP accounting systems (Quickbooks)
- Experience in Software and/or SaaS industry
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing high performing accounting teams
- Experienced business partner, skilled in building trust and inspiring others
