ROLE OVERVIEW

LifeStance Health is building the enterprise capabilities to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly and at scale. We are seeking a Head of AI Transformation & Enablement to serve as the orchestrator of this transformation – translating strategy into execution while shaping the operating model, governance, and prioritization that enable AI to scale effectively across the organization.

This role sits within Strategic Enablement and operates as a strategic execution partner and system-level operator. You will work cross-functionally with teams such as Operational Excellence, Technology, and People functions to drive an integrated AI roadmap – ensuring initiatives are aligned, sequenced correctly, and delivering measurable value. You will also partner with executive leadership to shape LifeStance’s enterprise AI operating model, governance, and prioritization approach, translating strategic direction into scalable, cross-functional execution.

This is not a research or experimentation role alone. It is an enterprise execution role focused on translating ambition into real-world impact through disciplined program leadership, governance, and cross-functional alignment.

The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, understands both opportunity and risk, and can move seamlessly between strategic framing, operating-model design, and hands-on program leadership, all while bringing a system-design lens. You will act as a trusted thought partner to senior leaders, while being relentlessly focused on outcomes, adoption, and enterprise readiness. You will both design key elements of how we operate and directly drive execution of critical initiatives. Success requires the ability to move fluidly between strategy and detail – setting direction, making trade-offs, and personally advancing the work where needed. This role also plays a critical part in translating AI opportunities in clear business cases, ensuring investments are grounded in measurable value and aligned with enterprise priorities.

Consistent with LifeStance’s values, every member of the LifeStance team is expected to support the mission, including participating in projects and initiatives beyond those explicitly outlined in this role.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Enterprise AI Strategy & Enablement

  • Translate LifeStance’s enterprise strategy into a clear, pragmatic AI enablement roadmap, identifying priority use cases, sequencing, dependencies, and value hypotheses.
  • Define how the organization prioritizes AI investments, including establishing criteria, developing business cases, and conducting cost-benefit analyses to inform investment decisions.
  • Partner with clinical, operations, technology, OE (operational excellence), compliance, and functional leaders to identify where AI can drive material improvements in access, experience, quality, productivity, and scalability.
  • Frame AI initiatives in business terms – clarifying the “why,” expected impact, risks, and success metrics for executive decision-making.

AI Governance & Responsible Adoption

  • Design, implement, and evolve AI governance frameworks, including intake, prioritization, risk assessment, clinical safety considerations, compliance, data use, and ongoing monitoring of deployed solutions.
  • Establish clear decision rights (e.g., RAPID), standards, and guardrails for AI use across the enterprise.
  • Serve as a central coordinator across Legal, Compliance, Privacy, Security, Clinical Leadership, and Technology to ensure responsible and compliant AI adoption.

Program Leadership & Execution

  • Own end-to-end execution of AI enablement initiatives – from concept through scaled deployment and lifecycle management.
  • Serve as the enterprise orchestrator cross-functionally with teams such as Operational Excellence and Technology, ensuring alignment, sequencing, and delivery of an integrated roadmap.
  • Lead cross-functional workstreams with clarity across scope, timelines, milestones, and interdependencies.
  • Anticipate risks, surface trade-offs early, and proactively resolve issues that threaten delivery, adoption, or trust.
  • Establish execution cadence, accountability mechanisms, and transparent progress reporting for executive sponsors.

Operating Model & Capability Building

  • Help define and operationalize the enterprise AI operating model – how ideas are surfaced, evaluated, built/bought, governed, scaled, and measured.
  • Stand up and maintain core structures such as the AI Council, decision forums, and executive reporting cadence.
  • Enable teams with the tools, processes, and guidance needed to apply AI effectively within their domains.
  • Partner with Technology and Insights teams to ensure AI initiatives are supported by strong data foundations, performance measurement, and scalable infrastructure.

Executive Thought Partnership & Change Leadership

  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on AI-related decisions, trade-offs, investment priorities, and implications.
  • Translate complex technical, operational, or regulatory considerations into clear executive-level narratives.
  • Support enterprise change management by building alignment, momentum, and shared understanding across leaders and teams.

Data, Metrics & Value Realization

  • Define and track success metrics across AI initiatives, including adoption, performance, risk indicators, and business impact.
  • Ensure initiatives are grounded in clear business cases and deliver measurable ROI.
  • Synthesize progress into clear, executive-ready insights that inform prioritization, investment decisions, and course correction.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred (MBA, MS, or similar
  • 7+ years of experience in strategy, program leadership, consulting, transformation, or technology-enabled operating roles, with significant time spent leading enterprise-scale initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional programs in regulated or highly complex environments (healthcare strongly preferred)
  • Strong familiarity with AI concepts, use cases, and risks (e.g., generative AI, automation, clinical decision support, operational AI), even if not a hands-on technical builder
  • Experience designing or operating governance models (AI, data, technology risk, compliance, or similar) and decision frameworks
  • Proven ability to translate ambiguity into structure, priorities, and action
  • Data-fluent with experience defining success metrics and using performance data to guide decisions
  • Demonstrated experience developing business cases and conducting cost-benefit or ROI analyses to inform strategic investment decisions
  • Exceptional influence and communication skills, with experience engaging senior executives without formal authority
  • Calm, disciplined, and solutions-oriented under pressure
  • Deep curiosity, strong judgment, and a bias toward responsible innovation
