About Freshpaint:

Customer data is the fuel that drives all modern businesses. From product analytics, to marketing, to support, to advertising, advanced data analysis in the warehouse, and even sales – customer data is the raw material for each function at a modern business.
For highly regulated businesses in healthcare, it’s always been a challenge to harness that customer data and get it to the marketing and analytics tools that require it while following patient privacy laws….until now.

Something as simple as running ads to get more users is simple for an e-commerce of software company to do. But common web analytics and advertising tools collect sensitive user identifiers and healthcare information automatically. Those same tools are not HIPAA compliant.

We provide a layer of data governance to make current web analytics tools HIPAA-compliant. For analytics, our customers can continue getting the insights they need to improve the patient experience. For marketing, Freshpaint safeguards health information while helping our customers promote access to care through popular advertising platforms like Facebook, Google, and others.

In short, we help healthcare marketers promote access to care and safeguard patient privacy at the same time. This is an important, complex problem in a massive market (healthcare is 20% of the US GDP).
Our customers manage their customer data with:

  1. Privacy Platform. We help healthcare providers automate their website’s + app’s HIPAA compliance, and safeguard patient data. This is our core product today

  2. Future additional product lines! Our core product provides a platform that we're building marketing applications on top of.

We’re fully remote. If you strongly value in-person work, Freshpaint is likely not the best fit for you. Even though we don’t care where you’re located, we only hire within the US. Many of our team is concentrated in various metro areas like SF or NYC. To balance out our remote-ness, we gather the team 2x times per year for offsites. We’re backed by leading investors including Y-Combinator, Intel Capital, and angel investors like the Head of Data from Slack, Head of Data at LinkedIn, and more.

Who we are:

Freshpaint was founded by web analytics veterans who realized how hard it was for highly regulated companies to collect and use customer data in a compliant way. We started as part of Y Combinator’s S19 cohort and have been focused on enabling healthcare companies collect, safeguard, and activate patient data since.

In 2022 the government issued updated guidance around HIPAA, basically making our software a requirement to use for healthcare companies. As a result, we're one of the fastest growing software companies on earth right now.
Our team has deep analytics and growth experience, with all of us coming from high-growth companies like Heap, Pendo, Iterable, Quantum Metric, and Retool. If you value lots of freedom and ownership in your work, interfacing with customers, and working on a product with high customer impact, then Freshpaint is your home.

Why this role matters

As Freshpaint enters its next phase of growth, data is becoming a core driver of product strategy, go-to-market execution, and operational decision-making. We’re looking for a senior data leader who can set the vision for analytics and data, align teams around it, and ensure it translates into measurable business impact.

This role leads Freshpaint’s analytics, ML, and data engineering direction. You will define how data is used across the company, guide the evolution of our data architecture through strong partnership with data engineers, and ensure both internal teams and customers benefit from high-quality, actionable insights. This is a leadership role first – focused on strategy, prioritization, and outcomes – with enough technical depth to guide decisions and challenge assumptions.

What You’ll Own

Analytics, Product & Business Insights

  • Set the company-wide strategy for product analytics, business metrics, and GTM insights

  • Define the core measurement frameworks for product usage, activation, retention, expansion, and customer value

  • Ensure analytics meaningfully influence product roadmap decisions, GTM strategy, and operational planning

  • Oversee the delivery of trusted dashboards, reporting, and self-serve analytics used by executives and functional leaders

  • Establish standards for metric definitions, data quality, and analytical rigor across the organization

Data Engineering Leadership

  • Lead the data engineering strategy in close partnership with data engineers

  • Set expectations and priorities for how data engineering supports analytics, product insights, and ML use cases

  • Ensure the data foundation (ingestion, modeling, storage, governance) scales with the business and product needs

  • Act as the primary stakeholder for analytics requirements, guiding architectural decisions without owning day-to-day pipeline development

Customer-Facing Data Products & ML

  • Own the vision and prioritization for customer-facing analytics and insight products (benchmarks, insight cards, modeled datasets, ML/AI features)

  • Partner with Product and Engineering to ensure these capabilities drive differentiation and customer value

  • Balance experimentation and innovation with delivery of durable, scalable data products

Team Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Lead and scale the analytics and ML organization; define roles, career paths, and team structure

  • Hire and develop senior talent who can operate autonomously and influence cross-functionally

  • Create clear operating rhythms, planning processes, and success metrics for the data organization

  • Foster a culture of accountability, curiosity, and outcome-driven execution

Strategy, Influence & Governance

  • Own the data roadmap and prioritize initiatives based on business impact and strategic goals

  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, GTM, Finance, and CS leadership to align on data priorities

  • Define and track data and analytics KPIs; ensure leadership has visibility into performance and outcomes

  • Guide vendor strategy and build-vs-buy decisions across analytics and ML tooling

What we’re looking for
  • A senior data leader with a track record of building, scaling, and leading analytics-focused organizations, experience growing teams in a fast paced startup environment

  • 7+ years in high-growth SaaS environments, with experience operating at the intersection of product, GTM, and data

  • Hands-on experience implementing and scaling a data platform with personal track record of owning and maintaining technologies such as Airflow, Snowflake, BigQuery, Looker, BigTable, etc.

  • Deep understanding of product analytics and business metrics, with strong judgment around data architecture and platform decisions

  • Experience leading through influence and partnership with data engineering teams

  • Proven ability to scale teams, set direction, and drive alignment across functions

  • Experience owning or guiding customer-facing data and insight products

  • Strong executive communication skills; able to translate data strategy into business outcomes

What you’ll find at Freshpaint
  • A company where data leadership is central to product and GTM strategy

  • Executive partners who value clarity, ownership, and principled decision-making

  • The opportunity to define and scale a modern analytics organization

  • Real influence over both internal operations and customer-facing capabilities

  • A collaborative, cross-functional environment with strong engineering and product partners

What success looks like in 3-6 months
  • A clearly articulated analytics and data engineering strategy aligned to company priorities

  • Leading analytics indicators of product success at launch

  • A scalable data foundation supporting analytics and ML, delivered through strong data engineering partnership

  • ML feature set / product discovery roadmap on meaningful differentiation using AI

  • A mature analytics and ML team with clear ownership, growth paths, and operating norms

  • A strong data culture where teams trust metrics and act on insights

Perks & Benefits

We take care of our team—here’s a peek at what you get when you join:

  • Competitive pay + generous equity (10-year exercise window)

  • Fully remote (U.S. only) with a $150/month coworking stipend

  • Half-day Fridays, every Friday
