About this role

As Head of Insurance and Risk Management, you'll own Intersect’s comprehensive asset-level insurance and risk management strategy, safeguarding clean energy and power infrastructure projects across their full lifecycle. Lead risk transfer strategies across a diverse, utility-scale energy portfolio, including solar, wind, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and natural gas generation assets.

You will partner closely with Capital Markets, Legal, Project Finance, Engineering, and Operations to negotiate complex insurance requirements in financing and EPC agreements, resolve issues, and guide leadership on critical strategic insurance decisions. By embedding rigorous risk governance into core business decisions, you will protect balance sheet stability and build long-run enterprise value for Intersect's rapidly expanding portfolio.

Team overview

This team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect's mission to accelerate the clean energy transition. The Capital Markets & Insurance team structures and secures the financial, commercial, and risk frameworks required to develop, construct, and operate gigawatt-scale power assets. Joining this team means steering the enterprise risk strategy for transformational energy infrastructure and collaborating across disciplines to deliver long-term resilience and value.

What you'll do

Own Risk Strategy and Identification

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive framework and systematic approach to Intersect's insurance and risk management process, evaluate risk tolerance levels and guide Intersect leadership on key insurance decisions.

  • Identify and monitor sources of business risk across current operations, new project developments, and geographic expansion; conduct business impact analyses and keep Google informed of emerging exposures.

  • Advise project teams on risk-informed mitigation strategies at the project level (e.g., hail, sparing strategies, fire breaks) to optimize coverage and reduce exposure.

Lead Project Insurance Placements

  • Design and structure program limits, sublimits, deductibles, and self-insured retentions, consulting with Google on program design; coordinate required risk modelling.

  • Own underwriting preparation: collate exposure information from Intersect's technical teams, prepare underwriter narratives, and submit data to brokers.

Drive Transactional and Contractual Risk Alignment

  • Review and negotiate insurance, indemnity, and liability provisions across EPC contracts, equipment supply agreements, offtake contracts, and financing agreements.

  • Lead insurance due diligence for M&A and transaction activity, and coordinate transaction-related insurance solutions (e.g., RWI) where required.

Direct Claims Management and Loss Prevention

  • Coordinate immediate incident response and reporting and lead day-to-day claims handling.

  • Manage post-loss mitigation and root-cause analysis to minimize impact and prevent reoccurrence; establish fleet-wide loss control standards.

Provide Enterprise Risk Leadership and Advisory

  • Serve as the central point of contact for all insurance topics between Intersect's technical and corporate teams and Google, providing updates, submitting documentation, and clarifying coverage requirements.

  • Advise executive leadership and project teams on emerging industry risk trends, severe weather exposure, and shifting insurance market dynamics.

  • Partner with Finance and Accounting on insurance budget projections, policy premium allocations, and ongoing lender compliance reporting.

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Risk Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate risk management and insurance placement, with substantial focus on Property & Casualty coverage in energy, utility-scale infrastructure, or oil & gas.

  • Proven experience translating heavy industrial or energy sector property risk into clean energy market solutions and bankable insurance programs.

  • Deep technical expertise in evaluating and negotiating insurance covenants, indemnity clauses, and liability caps in EPC, credit, and project finance documentation.

  • Strong commercial acumen and composure under pressure when leading major loss claims and underwriter presentations.

  • Collaborative and analytical mindset with strong organizational skills, thriving in fast-moving, multi-disciplinary team environments.

  • Alignment with Intersect's core values: Equity, Humility, Authenticity, Long-run Value, and People Come First.
