Lead product strategy and execution for Square Core Banking including checking, savings, transfers, payouts, Zelle, and foundational banking infrastructure. Own vision, cross-functional partnerships, team building, AI-enabled product practices, and metrics tying customer adoption and operational health to business outcomes.
Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.
Today, Square Banking serves millions of sellers who depend on us to manage the financial foundation of their business. When Square Core Banking works well, businesses get paid faster, manage cash flow effortlessly, and spend less time worrying about money. When it doesn't, they feel it immediately.
We're not building another bank. We're building the bank our small businesses actually need.
While traditional banks treat business banking as an afterthought, we're building something fundamentally different. A core banking platform designed from the ground up for the realities of running a small business:
That's what we're building for. Not banking as usual. Banking that actually works.
The Role
We're hiring a Head of Product, Square Core Banking to lead the product team building business checking, savings, instant transfers, instant payouts, Zelle, and the foundational banking infrastructure that powers it all.
This isn't about managing a roadmap. It's about building the future of business banking.
You'll own the vision, the strategy, the team, and the results. Everything from how many businesses adopt these banking products to how efficiently they run to whether they actually drive impact. This is one of the most important bets Square is making, and you'll be accountable for whether it works. The decisions you make matter. A lot. Architecture choices, feature priorities, technical trade-offs: they all determine whether a business can make payroll on time, access their money when they need it, or feel like their bank actually works for them instead of against them.
You'll have real support to make this happen: Square's distribution, our brand, and a company that genuinely cares about making sellers' lives easier.
If you're the kind of product leader who gets excited by hard problems, loves building things that matter, and wants to fundamentally change how small businesses manage money, keep reading. This is a once-in-a-career opportunity to define what business banking should actually be.

While traditional banks treat business banking as an afterthought, we're building something fundamentally different. A core banking platform designed from the ground up for the realities of running a small business:
- When a food truck needs to pay a supplier instantly
- When a salon needs to move money between accounts at 9 PM on a Sunday
- When a contractor needs Zelle to work seamlessly with their business account
That's what we're building for. Not banking as usual. Banking that actually works.

We're hiring a Head of Product, Square Core Banking to lead the product team building business checking, savings, instant transfers, instant payouts, Zelle, and the foundational banking infrastructure that powers it all.

If you're the kind of product leader who gets excited by hard problems, loves building things that matter, and wants to fundamentally change how small businesses manage money, keep reading. This is a once-in-a-career opportunity to define what business banking should actually be.
You Will
Define the Product Vision
- Set the multi-year product strategy for Square's core banking's foundational layer that enables business to manage money with the same simplicity they've come to expect from Square
- Translate "banking infrastructure" into tangible customer value: faster access to funds, seamless money movement, intelligent account management, and embedded finance capabilities that just work
- Balance the immediate (shipping features businesses need today) with the foundational (building the platform that unlocks the next decade of innovation)
Drive Execution at Scale
- Own end-to-end product development for checking & savings accounts, instant transfers, instant payouts, Zelle, card products, ledger systems, and emerging banking capabilities
- Partner with engineering and design to build systems that are secure, compliant, scalable, and most importantly delightful to use
- Make the hard prioritization calls: which features ship now, which capabilities become platform investments, which experiments get resources
Lead Through Complexity
- Navigate the intersection where great banking products actually get built - product innovation, regulatory requirements, risk management, and operational reliability
- Partner with Risk, Underwriting, Finance, Compliance, Legal, Treasury, and external bank partners to ship products that are both innovative and sound
Build and Grow the Team
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of senior product managers who own critical pieces of the banking experience
- Build a product culture that embraces AI as a core capability, not a feature. Where teams use AI to move faster, think more clearly about complex problems, and ship products that learn and improve over time
- Establish frameworks and rituals that help the team make better decisions faster, especially when the path forward isn't obvious. Use AI tools to accelerate discovery, validate assumptions, and iterate on solutions
- Create an environment where experimentation with AI-powered capabilities is expected, where teams are comfortable with ambiguity, and where learning from data (human and machine-generated) drives continuous improvement
Measure What Matters
- Define success metrics that capture both customer value (adoption, activation, retention, satisfaction) and business impact (revenue, operational efficiency, platform health)
- Build feedback loops that connect product decisions to real outcomes, creating a culture of learning and continuous improvement
You Have
- 12+ years in product management, with significant time spent building banking, payments, or financial infrastructure products
- Deep understanding of core banking systems, money movement rails, regulatory requirements, and operational risk
- Track record of shipping products that customers love and that meet the high bar for security, compliance, and reliability that financial services demands
- Experience leading complex products at scale across multiple customer segments and platforms, while adapting to different risk profiles, regulatory environments, and user needs.
- Strong product judgment and range, from core credit economics and underwriting innovation to customer experience, rewards design, and software driven differentiation
- A proven ability to partner closely with Engineering, Risk, Data Science, Finance, Compliance, and Go-To-Market leaders to coalesce and deliver ambitious goals
- Strength in building and scaling product organizations, mentoring senior product managers, and creating a culture of accountability, rigor, and customer obsession
- Comfort operating at both strategic altitude and operational depth. You can define a multi-year vision for a credit platform while also diving into approval flows, pricing mechanics, loss curves, and UX details
- A systems-level mindset with the ability to connect underwriting models, card economics, rewards structures, and embedded software features into a unified customer experience
- A forward-looking perspective on AI, automation, and real time data in credit products, and a clear point of view on how these technologies can create tangible value for businesses.
