Head of Research

About Deeter Analytics

Deeter Analytics is a privately held investment research and trading firm managing approximately ~$500M across public markets, alternatives, and private investments.

We operate with a small, senior, high-performance team within a deeply entrepreneurial culture. We value autonomy, judgment, clarity, and technical rigor. We hire very few people, expect a great deal from them, and invest heavily in long-term performance and trust.

This environment suits sharp, self-directed thinkers who can hold ambiguity, exercise independent judgment, and translate complex inputs into clear action.

Role Overview

We are hiring a Head of Research to serve as the connective tissue between the Founder’s market intuition and a disciplined, high-signal research operation.

This role is responsible for interpreting high-level market views, directional hypotheses, and emerging signals, and translating them into clear research priorities, structured investigations, and decision-ready synthesis.

This is not a passive research role.
This is not a reporting factory.

It is a high-judgment leadership role for someone who can think across markets, guide other strong researchers, and reliably convert complexity into clarity.

Core Functions

This role blends three tightly coupled functions:

1. Research Direction & Translation (Primary)

  • Work directly with the Founder to interpret market perspectives, emerging theses, and intuitive signals.

  • Translate those inputs into clear research questions, priorities, and workstreams.

  • Decide what matters, what doesn’t, and where depth vs. speed is required.

  • Ensure research effort is always in service of real decision-making, not intellectual exploration for its own sake.

2. Research Leadership & Evaluation

  • Lead and direct a small, high-caliber research team.

  • Delegate effectively: matching people, questions, and timelines appropriately.

  • Evaluate research quality rigorously — pushing for clarity, coherence, and usefulness.

  • Coach researchers to improve judgment, synthesis, and signal detection over time.

  • Maintain a consistently high bar for thinking, not just output volume.

3. Market Analysis & Synthesis

  • Oversee coverage across public equities, sectors, indices, and relevant macro, legal, or regulatory dynamics.

  • Evaluate and contextualize inputs from multiple domains (financial, regulatory, structural, behavioral).

  • Identify aberrational activity, institutional flows, regime shifts, and structural risk or opportunity.

  • Deliver concise, decision-ready synthesis directly to the Founder and trading leadership.

4. Process & Signal Quality

  • Design and refine lightweight research processes that improve speed, clarity, and signal-to-noise ratio.

  • Ensure research workflows remain adaptive to changing market conditions.

  • Continuously assess whether research outputs are actually improving decisions — and adjust accordingly.

Who You Are

You bring a strong background in markets, research, or trading — and you think in systems, not silos.

You likely have:

  • 7+ years in investment research, trading, or adjacent analytical roles

  • Experience leading or directing high-performing researchers

  • Deep familiarity with multi-strategy environments (fundamental, technical, macro, quantitative, or hybrid)

  • Comfort operating close to a principal decision-maker

You are:

  • A strong translator — able to turn intuition into structure and complexity into clarity

  • Intellectually rigorous but not dogmatic

  • Comfortable changing your mind when facts change

  • Direct, concise, and calm under pressure

  • Oriented toward usefulness, not performative intelligence

Anti-Patterns (This Role Is Not a Fit If…)

  • You prefer narrowly defined research mandates without ambiguity

  • You default to producing long reports rather than sharp synthesis

  • You struggle to prioritize or say “this doesn’t matter”

  • You need heavy structure, process, or validation to operate

  • You want distance from real decision-making responsibility

Work Environment & Structure

  • High-autonomy, senior-operator environment

  • Remote-friendly, with strong collaboration and direct access to leadership

  • Availability required during market hours (typically beginning ~7:00 AM)

  • Fast-paced, meritocratic, low-bureaucracy culture

Compensation

Base Salary: Commensurate with experience and demonstrated judgment

Bonus: Performance-based, tied directly to research quality and impact on trading outcomes

Benefits: Competitive healthcare, flexibility appropriate to a senior leadership role
