Inside Sales Manager, Horace Mann General Agency (HMGA)

Horace Mann Insurance is seeking a dynamic, results-driven Inside Sales Manager to lead and grow our Agency Sales Operations. This role is a unique opportunity to make a direct impact on our mission of helping educators and their families protect what they value most, while shaping a high-performing, client-focused sales culture.

We’re looking for a proven leader with inside sales and agency expertise, a relentless commitment to operational excellence and a passion for developing people. The ideal candidate brings strategic vision and a hands-on leadership approach to inspire teams, drive growth and consistently deliver outstanding customer experiences.

 Key Responsibilities

Sales Leadership & Performance

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the Agency Sales team, ensuring consistent achievement of sales and call center efficiency targets and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Drive revenue growth through disciplined sales management – optimizing performance across lead generation, quoting and policy sales.
  • Implement data-driven performance management, leveraging dashboards and analytics to ensure accountability and alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Champion a culture of ownership and continuous improvement, modeling the mindset of running a successful internal agency within the broader organization.

Coaching & Talent Development

  • Recruit, onboard and develop top inside sales talent to build a best-in-class team.
  • Provide strategic coaching and mentorship to front-line Supervisors, strengthening their ability to drive performance, foster engagement and uphold a culture of accountability.
  • Create a competitive yet supportive environment that celebrates achievement, collaboration and professional growth.
  • Inspire teams to take a client-first approach – balancing sales excellence with empathy, compliance and integrity.

Operational Excellence

  • Direct all Agency Sales Center processes, including lead management, quoting, underwriting coordination and policy binding.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of a Customer Save Team focused on retaining existing policyholders through various personalized retention solutions.
  • Partner cross-functionally with internal/external stakeholders and business units to enhance lead flow, agency system utilization and automation efficiency.
  • Streamline Agency Sales Operations to maximize productivity and policy placement while ensuring compliance with licensing, regulatory and company standards.

Customer Experience & Escalation

  • Ensure every interaction embodies Horace Mann’s commitment to Distinctive Service – building trust, satisfaction and long-term relationships.
  • Resolve escalated customer and agent inquiries promptly, identifying root causes and coaching teams to prevent recurrence.
  • Leverage customer insights and feedback to refine sales approaches and improve overall customer experience.

Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience - preferred. 
  • 5+ years of management experience, with at least 2 years leading an inside sales or call center team, ideally within insurance or financial services.
  • Strong understanding of Agency Sales Center Operations, performance management and CRM systems – knowledge of comparative rating systems a plus
  • Proven success driving revenue growth through coaching, process optimization and strategic leadership.
  • Active P&C Producers insurance license required. 
  • Excellent communication, analytical and people leadership skills.

Salary Range:

  • $71,500.00 - $105,400.00 annually plus incentive. 

Salary is commensurate to experience, location, etc.
