Our mission is to curate a training experience that is cohesive across our product workflows and engages our users to offer them training just in time. We believe that training should be relevant to a user and their organization, that it should drive performance, and be utilized and engaging. We are looking for a junior Instructional Design Associate to join our Virtual Training and Enablement Team and help us to create engaging, effective, and scalable training experiences.

The Instructional Design Associate executes our eLearning course designs, demo video storyboards, and simulation schematics. This role requires a creative and analytical approach to instructional design, working closely with a senior Instructional Designer and an Instructional Technologist to ensure the training content meets the highest standards of quality and effectiveness. You must have strong technology and content development skills in addition to being able to work independently and cross-functionally.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Instructional Development

  • Utilize adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies to ensure training content is impactful and retains learner engagement.

  • Partner with senior Instructional Designers to leverage expertise and ensure accuracy and relevancy of training content.

  • Work closely with Instructional Technologists to integrate technology solutions that enhance the learning experience.

  • Implement feedback from learners, trainers, and stakeholders to continuously enhance training effectiveness.

  • Stay current with industry trends and incorporate innovative approaches and best practices into designs.

Virtual Training and Enablement

  • Consult/provide feedback as requested on concepts designs and release materials.

  • Conduct course quality assurance reviews to ensure full functionality and accuracy.

Coaching and Training Services

  • Participate in departmental and divisional initiatives.

Education & Experience Required

  • 2-3 years’ experience developing training for a variety of delivery modalities.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning and Development, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Healthcare industry experience a plus but not required.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Proficiency in e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate), video editing (e.g., Camtasia), and Learning Management Systems (LMS).

  • Aptitude for learning and applying new technologies quickly and effectively.

  • Excellent writing, communication, and copy-editing skills, with an eye for detail.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.


Expected Compensation

$57,000 - $97,000

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates.  Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
