About This Role
The Interconnection Specialist plays a key role in the solar project lifecycle by managing the process of connecting solar systems to the utility grid. This position is responsible for submitting interconnection applications, ensuring compliance with utility requirements, and coordinating with internal teams, customers, and utility companies to achieve timely and accurate approvals
Overall Responsibilities
- Application Management
- Prepare, submit, and track utility interconnection applications for residential and/or commercial solar projects
- Verify the accuracy of application data, system designs, and required documentation before submission
- Monitor approval timelines and proactively follow up with utilities to avoid delays
- Utility & Regulatory Coordination
- Serve as the primary point of contact with utility companies for interconnection requirements, approvals, and inspections
- Stay informed on utility policies, rate structures, and interconnection rules to ensure compliance
- Coordinate with permitting and engineering teams to ensure designs meet utility standards
- Documentation & Recordkeeping
- Maintain organized records of interconnection applications, approvals, and utility communications
- Update project management software with status changes and required documents
- Cross-Department Collaboration
- Work closely with project managers, designers, and field teams to address interconnection-related issues
- Support sales and proposal teams with interconnection feasibility assessments and cost estimates
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify bottlenecks in the interconnection process and recommend process enhancements
- Assist in training internal staff on interconnection best practices and regulatory changes
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of experience in interconnection, permitting, utility coordination, or related solar/energy field.
- Strong understanding of solar PV systems and utility interconnection processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and project management software.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
