Job Description

The IT Infrastructure Expert engineer provides technical leadership and drives IT engineering resources involved in the management of computing, and storage infrastructure which support Allstate’s enterprise business applications and technology capabilities. This role encompasses managing and contributing to detailed system design as well as implementation, testing and coordination of operational maintenance of IT infrastructure technologies. Additionally, the Expert engineer will provide guidance in establishing and driving engineering and operational excellence practices across the IT infrastructure engineering organization, with a focus on continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Build long-term relationships within team and amongst peers by creating an environment of safety, innovation, integrity, and honest open communication.

  • Set and execute platform strategy, including objectives, plans and policies to develop and deliver innovative solutions and systems in support of Enterprise goals.

  • Coordinate with engineering resources across the enterprise to identify, recommend, develop, implement and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.

  • Drive decisions that have an impact on quality, availability and effectiveness of business activities beyond immediate teams.

  • Initiate and implement continuous improvements in IT infrastructure landscape, including automation of complex tasks and delivery of IT infrastructure related services

  • Influence IT infrastructure consumers, service providers and peers to successfully deliver on enterprise IT goals and commitments.

  • Partner with others in the organization to set and manage expectations associated with Allstate’s IT infrastructure, continually seek opportunities to be a thought partner and deepen relationships.

  • Adapt communication approach for audiences at multiple internal and external levels.

  • Plan and manage tasks to integrate new or revised critical/priority applications with operational support tools to provide automated monitoring and alerting, including requirements definition, documentation, escalation communication groups, coordination of scripting/programming, and testing.

  • Lead incident trending and analysis work across multiple technologies to identify potential problems and drive those recommendations to resolution.

  • Manage/lead effort to determine the originating factors for a given incident,and develop and communicate recommendations for preventing repetition to key stakeholders.

  • Plan and manage tasks to create metrics and reporting solutions that enable improved infrastructure service delivery, including requirements definition, scripting/programming, and testing.

  • Plan and manage tasks to create, revise, implement automation solutions for infrastructure production monitoring and alerting, including requirements definition, scripting/programming, and testing,

  • Validate operational security for applicable tools processes through reporting and communication of security breaches.

·       Facilitate and oversee the implementation of technical and administrative changes.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience managing computing platforms

  • Experience working in a geographically dispersed team environment. 

  • Experience working with enterprise level IT infrastructure storage and compute

Preferred Experience and Qualifications :

  • Exposure and experience with both on-premise and Cloud technology infrastructures.  Knowledge of Azure and/or AWS would be desirable.

  • Understanding of XP principles and practices and how they can be applied to infrastructure engineering.

  • Exposure to and understanding of NAS, SAN, and Object storage technologies.   Work with NetApp, Hitachi, and/or Scality platforms is desirable.

  • Exposure to and understanding of data protection and data security technologies.  Work with Rubrik and/or Oracle’s Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance

  • Exposure to virtual compute infrastructure management.  Work with the Nutanix hypervisor is desirable

  • Understanding of compute, storage and network infrastructure delivery through automation – Infrastructure as Code.

•    This job does not have supervisory duties.

•     In lieu of the above education requirements, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Compensation

Compensation offered for this role is 120,000.00 - 193,725.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.
