As a Manager - Technical Lead specializing in Java, you will guide engineering teams in designing and building enterprise grade applications using Java, Spring Boot, APIs, microservices, cloud platforms, and CI/CD automation. You'll function as both hands on architect and team leader, ensuring engineering excellence and driving strategic technology outcomes.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Technical Leadership (Java & Platform Engineering)
- Lead end to end development of scalable Java (Java 8+) / Spring Boot applications and backend services
- Design reusable components, API frameworks, and microservices aligned with enterprise architecture standards
- Oversee solution architecture, code quality, performance optimization, and production readiness
- Guide teams in modern engineering practices such as TDD, DevOps automation, cloud-native design, SLO-driven reliability, and observability tooling (Grafana, Prometheus, Dynatrace, etc.)
- Team Leadership & People Management
- Manage and mentor software engineers and leads; build an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture
- Strengthen team capability in Java, architecture, debugging, cloud deployment, and production operations
- Foster continuous improvement and drive adoption of engineering best practices
- Delivery Ownership & Process Excellence
- Drive Agile execution: sprint planning, backlog refinement, review cycles, release readiness, and cross team coordination
- Troubleshoot production issues, lead RCAs, and ensure timely resolution and corrective actions
- Partner closely with product managers, architects, SRE/DevOps teams, QE, and business stakeholders to ensure technical and business alignment

Required Qualifications:
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including strong hands on experience in Java and Spring Boot
- Experience building scalable APIs, microservices, and distributed backend platforms
- Expertise in CI/CD, cloud deployment, monitoring, performance tuning, and reliability engineering
- Solid background leading multiple engineering teams or managing managers
- Solid communication, stakeholder management, and problem solving skills
