Junior Account Manager/ Media Strategist (Independent Contractor)

Overview

Bonfire Partners is seeking a Junior Account Manager to support account managers with a mix of writing, research, and project management tasks. This "Swiss Army knife" role is designed to free up account managers for strategic thinking by handling execution-focused work. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, an excellent writer, and eager to learn the PR industry. Contractors are expected to exercise discretion over how work is performed and may use their own tools, processes, and workflows to deliver agreed-upon outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Writing & Content (60-70% of role):

  • Draft bylines and articles for account manager review and polish
  • Create initial briefing documents for client interviews
  • Build and maintain media lists for specific pitches and campaigns
  • Draft pitch emails and follow-up communications
  • Assist with press materials, FAQs, and client communications
  • Support social media content creation and amplification

Administrative & Project Management (30-40% of role):

  • Manage various amplification assignments and tactical projects
  • Conduct research on journalists, publications, and industry trends
  • Identify the best journalists to target for specific stories
  • Coordinate logistics for media outreach campaigns
  • Maintain CRM and project management systems (Notion, databases)
  • Support account managers with coordination, organization, and workflow management

Required Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience in PR, communications, journalism, or related field
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to match tone and style
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities
  • Comfortable with technology and learning new tools quickly
  • Proactive, self-starter mentality with ability to anticipate needs
  • Strong research skills and media savvy
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Team player willing to support wherever needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with media databases (Muck Rack, Cision, etc.)
  • Experience with Notion, project management tools, or CRM systems
  • Background in journalism, content writing, or marketing
  • Understanding of the technology industry and business news
  • Experience with AI tools for writing and research

  • Account managers have more time for strategic thinking and high-value activities
  • Drafts require minimal editing and demonstrate understanding of the client's voice
  • Media lists are accurate, well-researched, and targeted
  • Projects are completed on time with minimal oversight

This role is structured as a full-time independent contractor (1099) engagement. Due to state-specific worker classification, tax, and compliance requirements, we are currently only able to engage contractors who reside in the following U.S. states: TX, FL, GA, NC, SC, TN, AZ, UT, NV, OH, IN.

We periodically reassess eligible locations as regulatory requirements evolve.
