Who we are:

Glydways is reimagining what public transit can be. We believe that mobility is the gateway to opportunity—connecting people to housing, education, employment, commerce, and care. By making transportation more accessible, affordable, and sustainable, we empower communities to thrive and unlock economic and social prosperity.

Our mission is to revolutionize transit with a solution that delivers high capacity, exceptional user experiences, unmatched affordability, and minimal environmental impact.

The Glydways system is a groundbreaking network of carbon-neutral, interconnected transit pathways powered by standardized autonomous vehicles on dedicated roadways. Operating 24/7 with on-demand access, it offers personalized and efficient mobility—without the burden of heavy upfront infrastructure costs or ongoing taxpayer subsidies.

With Glydways, we’re building more than a transportation system; we’re creating a future where everyone, everywhere, has the freedom to move.

About the Role:
We're looking for a Lead Android Engineer to own and drive the development of our customer-facing applications—the primary touchpoint between riders and our autonomous transit network. You'll lead the effort to build a cohesive software suite spanning kiosk interfaces and mobile applications that make requesting and riding in autonomous vehicles intuitive and delightful.

This is a high-impact role where you'll shape the product experience from the ground up, collaborating closely with Design to translate vision into polished, production-ready software.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead the architecture, development, and delivery of Android applications for kiosk and mobile platforms
  • Partner with Design to create seamless, accessible user experiences for diverse rider populations
  • Implement secure payment flows and NFC-based interactions for fare collection and rider authentication
  • Define technical direction and best practices for the Android codebase
  • Mentor and grow team members as the mobile engineering function scales
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with backend, operations, and hardware teams to integrate with vehicle systems and backend services
  • Drive decisions on frameworks, tooling, and development workflows
  • Ensure reliability, performance, and quality through testing strategies and code review practices

What We're Looking For:
  • 7+ years of Android development experience, with at least 2 years in a technical lead or senior role
  • Deep expertise in Kotlin and modern Android frameworks (Jetpack Compose, Coroutines/Flow, Android SDK)
  • Hands-on experience with NFC integration using Android NFC APIs for contactless interactions
  • Proven experience implementing payment solutions (Google Pay, payment SDKs, PCI compliance considerations)
  • Experience shipping consumer-facing applications to the Google Play Store
  • Strong architectural sensibilities—you've designed systems that scale and remain maintainable (MVVM, MVI, Clean Architecture)
  • Track record of close collaboration with Design and Product teams
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort leading technical discussions

Nice to Have:
  • Experience with stored value card systems (transit cards, closed-loop payment cards, or prepaid fare media)
  • Experience with kiosk or embedded Android applications (Android Things, dedicated device mode)
  • Exposure to real-time systems, IoT, or hardware integrations
  • Background in transit, mobility, or automotive technology
  • Experience with accessibility standards and inclusive design
  • Familiarity with EMV standards or contactless payment protocols
  • Experience with Host Card Emulation (HCE) for NFC applications
