TL;DR

Fast-growing measurement company looking for a Legal Counsel with 5–7 years of experience to support our growing business. This role is primarily focused on contract drafting and negotiation, with additional responsibilities across compliance, privacy, and governance. Prior experience in media, advertising technology, or SaaS industries is strongly preferred.

Who we are

Adelaide is the leader in one of the fastest-growing areas of advertising: attention measurement and activation.

Since 2020, we’ve become the trusted media quality measurement partner for 40% of Fortune 50 brands who rely on our award-winning AU metric to plan smarter campaigns, invest in high-quality inventory, and drive stronger business outcomes. Adweek has called Adelaide’s AU “the attention economy’s most widely recognized metric,” and AdExchanger named it “Best Measurement/Analytics Capability.”

Our business continues to scale rapidly,  outperforming the industry with a 35% three-year CAGR. What began as a 9-person startup in 2019 is now a team of more than 75.

The past year brought meaningful expansion. We launched the AU ecosystem, giving brands, media agencies, and publishers a unified way to leverage and transact on AU. We broadened our programmatic footprint with custom bidding in Google DV360 and pre-bid targeting in The Trade Desk, and grew our partner roster to over 125 platforms and publishers. Leading brands like Dell, Diageo, and Jaguar Land Rover—along with premium publishers such as Hearst, Spotify, and The New York Times—continue to demonstrate AU’s value across the media lifecycle.

Adelaide is backed by prominent investors such as Human Ventures (Joe Marchese), Aperiam Ventures (Joe Zawadzki & Eric Franchi), WGI (Jonah Goodhart), and Irwin Gotlieb.

We have a NYC office and a London WeWork, but operate as a remote-friendly company with flexible work options.

How we work

We’re a team of action-oriented doers—management rolls up their sleeves and contributes every day. Our culture is rooted in curiosity and rigor: opinions are held lightly, debated openly, and strengthened through testing. Everyone is encouraged to play a role in shaping planning and strategy.

We’re built on belonging and growth—94% of employees report a strong sense of belonging, and 81% say they’re happy at work.

Position overview

This position reports to the VP of Operations. Its a team of 1 and it serves as the company’s primary legal resource for contracts and compliance, ensuring our media and adtech agreements are structured to protect intellectual property, data, and commercial interests while enabling the business to move quickly and responsibly.

We’re seeking a candidate with 5-7 years of legal experience, with a specialization in advertising, media, and adtech.

This is a fully remote position within the United States, with opportunities to connect with colleagues at our New York office.

What you'll learn

An important part of our culture is continuing education and the open sharing of ideas. We offer:

  • A large network of investors and advisors for you to access that will help your team succeed
  • Mentorship from executives with decades of experience in adtech and media
  • Regular internal knowledge-sharing sessions
  • Education budget to accelerate your team’s development

Specifically, in this role, you will learn:

  • End-to-end deal flow in adtech and media — from first draft to final execution, gaining deep exposure to how commercial terms drive business outcomes.
  • Balancing legal risk with business priorities — developing judgment on when to hold the line and when to find creative solutions that keep deals moving.
  • Practical application of privacy, data, and compliance frameworks in a high-growth environment where regulations meet fast-moving innovation.
  • Cross-functional influence — working closely with sales, operations, product, and leadership, and learning how legal advice shapes strategic decision-making.
Core responsibilities
  • Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of media/adtech-specific agreements, including:
    • Master Service Agreements (MSAs)
    • Data License Agreements
    • Statements of Work (SOWs)
    • Vendor and partner agreements
  • Ensure contracts incorporate appropriate protections around intellectual property, data use, and commercial risk.
  • Conduct vendor compliance assessments and support company-wide regulatory adherence.
  • Advise on privacy and data protection matters, including risk assessments and policy alignment.
  • Provide governance support for board-related matters, including documentation and compliance oversight.
  • Assist with internal company legal issues, such as employment-related matters, tax considerations, and general corporate legal support.
What you'll bring
  • JD and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 5–7 years of legal experience, ideally with exposure to media, ad-tech, or SaaS industries.
  • Strong background in commercial contracts and intellectual property.
  • Knowledge of privacy, data protection, and compliance frameworks.
  • Business-minded, collaborative, and able to balance legal risk with practical solutions.
What will set you apart
  • Intellectual curiosity and drive — you dig into complex issues, ask the right questions, and push yourself to understand the “why” behind the work.
  • Business-minded pragmatism — you balance legal precision with commercial realities, providing solutions that protect the company without slowing it down.
  • Ownership mentality — as a team of one, you thrive in taking full responsibility for your work and driving matters forward independently.
  • Clear, confident communication — you can translate legal concepts into practical guidance for business leaders and cross-functional teams.
