At Swap, we’re building a culture that values clarity, creativity, and shared ownership as we redefine how global commerce works.

About the Role

We are hiring a mid-level Commercial & Product Counsel (3-6 PQE) to become the second member of our legal team. This is a unique opportunity to influence the foundations of a global legal function within a fast-scaling, post-Series C technology company. You will work closely with our Senior Legal Counsel and partner cross-functionally on commercial contracting, product development, privacy, and regulatory matters across the US, UK, and EU. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys autonomy, thrives in fast-paced environments, and is motivated to build structure where none exists.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead commercial and partner contracting across customer, vendor, and procurement work streams, including SMB, mid-market, and enterprise negotiations.
  • Maintain, develop, and improve contract templates, playbooks, negotiation guidelines, and scalable legal processes.
  • Support product development initiatives, including our agentic shopfront and broader platform capabilities, by delivering pragmatic legal guidance.
  • Contribute to global privacy maturity efforts (e.g., UK GDPR/US privacy), including DPAs, SCCs, data mapping, and privacy-by-design reviews.
  • Advise cross-functional teams (Sales, Success, Ops, Product, Engineering, Security) as a hands-on legal partner.
  • Support regulatory work streams related to tax and cross-border shipping products.
  • Provide region-specific support depending on location (US: commercial and state-law nuances; UK: customer/vendor negotiations and UK privacy requirements).
  • Assist with generalist legal work, including corporate governance, employment queries, marketing reviews, and light legal-ops improvements.
What we would like to see:
  • 3-6 years working experience as lawyer or internal counsel, with experience in commercial contracting, product counselling, privacy/GDPR, and/or US/UK tech contracting.
  • Ability to operate autonomously and make pragmatic, business-first decisions in ambiguous and evolving environments.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of translating legal concepts into practical, actionable advice for non-legal stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting product development or cross-functional teams in a high-growth tech, ecommerce, logistics, or SaaS setting is a plus.
  • Comfort establishing new processes and improving existing workflows.
  • A collaborative, humble working style and willingness to partner with teams across the organisation.
  • Ability to work independently with globally distributed colleagues.
Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary.
  • Stock options in a high-growth startup.
  • Competitive PTO with public holidays additional.
  • Private Health.
  • Pension.
  • Wellness benefits.
  • Breakfast Mondays.

Diversity & Equal Opportunities:

We embrace diversity and equality in a serious way. We are committed to building a team with a variety of backgrounds, skills, and views. The more inclusive we are, the better our work will be. Creating a culture of equality isn't just the right thing to do; it's also the smart thing.
