About the Role

Abnormal is seeking a Legal Operations Manager to continue to build upon and lead the operational backbone of our global Legal function. In this role, you will develop and refine a high-performing Legal Ops team and partner across all Legal practice areas that support GTM, G&A, and R&D. You will own the data, systems, and processes that improve team performance, highlight opportunities for continuous “1% better” improvement, and enable Legal to operate with clarity, velocity, and scale.

What you will do
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the Legal Operations team by setting clear goals, providing coaching, and supporting career growth.
  • Own and execute the Legal Operations roadmap, including AI-enabled tooling strategy, workflow modernization, automation, resourcing, and quarterly/annual planning—designing and scaling AI-powered contract, intake, and knowledge workflows while supporting the Legal team in responsible AI tool selection, governance, and data-driven translation of legal risk into business-aligned outcomes.
  • Partner with the Legal team leadership and GTM/G&A stakeholders to lead cross-functional initiatives such as contracting workflow redesign and enhancements, and audit readiness.
  • Partner with all practice areas to operationalize their workflows, identify process gaps, and deliver scalable systems, and documentation that improve consistency and velocity.
  • Drive adoption and enablement of contracting systems across Legal and cross-functional teams.
  • Lead evaluation, implementation, and management of Legal technology systems in partnership with IT, Finance, Security, and other applicable cross-functional teams.
  • Oversee the strategy and architecture of the CLM platform, ensuring workflows, templates, metadata, clause libraries, and integrations are scalable and compliant.
  • Own Legal’s KPI and data framework—ensuring audit-ready data, analyzing operational performance, and translating insights into improvements across processes, tooling, and team capacity.
  • Responsible for overseeing the end-to-end management of outside counsel billing and legal vendors to ensure accuracy, timely payment, compliance with billing guidelines, and ongoing evaluation of cost effectiveness and ROI.
Must Haves
  • 8–10+ years of Legal Operations or relevant operational experience in high-growth SaaS environments
  • 4+ years of people management experience
  • Ability to partner effectively with rest of heads of legal, aligning legal ops to legal priorities and driving adoption through influence and trust
  • Experience with automation (e.g., Glean, Zapier, Workato) and implementing ticketing platforms (e.g. ServiceNow, JIRA) for Legal teams
  • Experience owning or architecting a CLM platform (SpotDraft) and designing contracting or procurement workflows
  • Experience with billing/matter, project, spend management, legal vendor onboarding and other legal compliance and knowledge systems
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional operational initiatives
  • Strong program/project management and operational analytics skills
  • Ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Clear, concise communication and a strong business-partner mindset
  • Excitement for, and willingness to grow proficiency in, enterprise generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Glean) and using AI to build, re-think, and automate routine legal workflows.
  • Eagerness to join and contribute to a high-performing start-up in-house legal team with an AI mindset for problem solving.
  • Demonstrated record of delivering impactful, scalable solutions for legal teams with measurable outcomes that drive client satisfaction and outcomes.
Nice to Have
  • Ability to develop or refine knowledge architecture for internal legal content.
  • Lean/Six Sigma, PMP, or product management training
