Role Description

As Lifecycle & Email Marketing Manager (Contractor), you will own the development, planning, execution, and optimization of customer communication strategy that guide users through the full customer journey- from onboarding to activation, feature adoption, and retention. This is a pivotal, hands-on role at the intersection of growth, product, and brand. You’ll develop and launch high-impact lifecycle communications that drive meaningful user actions and support both consumer and enterprise growth motions.

You’re equal parts strategist, executor, and analyst- someone who can write a subject line, build a sequence, and analyze engagement performance in the same afternoon. You’re passionate about our product and users and know them deeply, recognizing where lifecycle marketing campaigns can improve user experience and adoption AND can expedite movement through the full marketing funnel.

Independent contractor | ~13-months | $60–$72/hr

Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for driving to the following outcomes:

  • Lifecycle campaign execution: Build, schedule, and send email campaigns across the full customer lifecycle, including onboarding, feature education, retention, and resurrection, managing both ad hoc sends and automated journey programs for B2C and B2B audiences out of Iterable and Pardot.

  • Journey strategy and optimization: Inherit and monitor three to four active evergreen journeys, propose and execute optimizations based on engagement data, and build new automated programs that move users through activation and toward retention. You bring a point of view on what actually works, not just what's technically possible.

  • Reporting and performance analysis: Monitor campaign and journey performance without being asked, surface insights proactively, and use data from tools like Amplitude or Looker to identify gaps and iterate. Sixty days in, you're bringing recommendations to the table before your manager asks.

  • Cross-functional execution: Partner closely with Marketing Ops (Iterable back-end, audience logic, scheduling), PMM, design, and the broader marketing team to execute campaigns that are on-brief, on-time, and free of errors. You run this coordination independently.

  • Testing and optimization: Design and execute A/B tests on messaging, timing, segmentation, and subject lines. Maintain documentation so the work is repeatable and auditable.

Qualifications/Competencies/Skills

To be successful in this role, you’ll bring the following skills and qualifications:

  • Lifecycle and email strategy: You have a deep understanding of lifecycle marketing with a focus on onboarding, nurturing, and retention. You know what a good journey looks like before you build it.

  • Email deliverability and best practices: You have a working technical understanding of email marketing fundamentals, including deliverability, list health, and inbox placement. You don't just build and send; you make sure emails actually land and get opened.

  • Platform execution: You're hands-on with CRM and marketing automation platforms, specifically Iterable. Familiarity with Salesforce, Pardot, or Marketing Cloud Account Engagement is a plus. You build, test, and troubleshoot without needing a guide.

  • In-app and email alignment: You can coordinate email and in-product touch points to create cohesive lifecycle experiences, partnering with product and ops to ensure the right message reaches the right person at the right time.

  • Data-driven iteration: You measure lifecycle performance using tools like Amplitude or Looker, identify what's underperforming, and act on it. You don't wait to be asked.

  • Copywriting and sequencing: You write persona-driven copy with strong instincts on tone, messaging hierarchy, and journey flow. You think in sequences, not one-offs.

  • Adaptability: You stay high-output in a fast-moving environment. Priorities shift and timelines compress; you adjust without losing momentum or needing your manager to re-anchor you.

Experience
  • Required: 5-7+ years in years in lifecycle or email marketing in a SaaS environment

  • Required: Hands-on Iterable experience building campaigns, journeys, and audience segmentation

  • Required: Proven track record of creating and optimizing email campaigns that move users from signup to activation and beyond

  • Required: Experience with A/B testing and personalization strategies across CRM/email channels

  • Required: Familiarity with growth KPIs including MAU, DAU, retention, activation rate, and churn reduction

  • Required: B2B OR B2C experience (ability to flex between both is strongly preferred)

  • Required: Strong collaboration skills, particularly with product, design, and operations

  • Preferred: EdTech background or experience marketing to educator audiences

  • Preferred: Experience with Pardot/Salesforce Marketing Cloud Account Engagement

  • Preferred: Data analysis using Amplitude, Looker, or similar tools

  • Preferred: Basic HTML for email editing
