Job Overview:

The Principal Systems Engineer is responsible for interpreting internal or external business issues and recommending best practices. They will be tasked with solving complex systems-related problems and will work independently with minimal guidance. The Principal Systems Engineer may be responsible for leading functional teams or projects and is regarded as a specialist in Systems. As such, they must have in-depth expertise in Systems as well as broad knowledge of the Systems discipline within the Engineering function.

Responsibilities

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Work with complex and dynamic Systems settings that require ongoing maintenance and monitoring, as well as remaining current on the newest trends and advances in Engineering systems/technology and security
  • Handle several activities and priorities while meeting the needs and expectations of a variety of stakeholders and users
  • Oversee the planning, designing, and configuring engineering systems to fulfill our client's criteria and demands for all revenue projects  
  • Are supervised, mentored, and trained in best practices and processes
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and enhance system performance, dependability, data integrity, and security of Engineering Systems; mainly SRD/SMAT/E3D/S3D
  • Coordinate with Project Engineers, Controls Team, PMT, Supply Chain, Sub-Contractors, and other Revenue Project stakeholders to ensure that deliverables are delivered on schedule  
  • Global support for every type of database configuration/setup for new projects, QA of new software releases, and production deployment
  • Work closely with IT and operations teams’ external vendors in designing and managing the company’s core infrastructure platforms, systems, and services
  • Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses including design reports and procedures
  • Manage own time to meet agreed deadlines and manhour estimate for every bid budget and develop plans for EPCI project execution
  • Clearly communicate and explain complex issues and work to establish understanding
  • Be fully familiar with the project scope of work, specifications, schedule, and all inter-discipline requirements; including identifying concerns as early as practicable and taking appropriate initiatives to address the issues
  • Identify changes to scope and promptly raise change notifications, including providing any necessary supporting documentation and estimates  
  • Interface with other departments to obtain input for Discipline designs and drawings of valves for dimensions and weights data
  • Raise technical queries to obtain missing information, clarify work scope, and maintain our client's preferred procedures, specifications, standards, practices, and operational requirements
  • Participate in finalizing deliverables lists and deliverables, ensuring compliance with specifications and functional integrity
  • Attend project review meetings, vendor meetings, engineering meetings, and other meetings, as required
  • Prepare and review Engineering systems reports and procedures
  • Work as Lead Engineer on small projects or acting as area lead or deputy lead
  • Have full responsibility for all engineering work on small-size projects
  • Have full control and manages work hours, materials, progress
  • Work in close liaison with the area leads, etc.
  • Coordinate with project management
  • File engineering system work
  • Give relevant feedback to the department

Reports to:
Project: Project Managers/Directors/Project Engineering Managers
Functional: Engineering Manager/Director
Liaise With: All Engineering disciplines, Construction/Fabrication Group, PMT, Procurement Group & Subcontractors
Supervises: All Systems Engineers 

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • 15+ years in oil and gas with major contractor or consultant predominantly performing Engineering Systems
  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma with relevant work experience
  • Strong working knowledge of Engineering Systems, Design techniques of different disciplines like piping, subsea, E&I, and Analysis methods, and detailed knowledge of catalog Management using SRD/SMAT/3D Systems applications
  • Seasoned knowledge of engineering systems standards and specifications
  • Good knowledge of engineering software
  • Able to work independently
  • Good working knowledge of English, both oral and written
  • Good organizer, motivator, and supervisor
  • Keen on improving the effectiveness of the work
  • Show flexibility and ensure proper hand-over with regards to:
    • The reassignment to other departments/construction sites/fabrication yards
    • The replacement of colleagues during illness and holidays
    • The provision of assistance to other colleagues with heavy workloads (also other projects) when possible/desirable
    • The managing/learning of current working methods and software applications
    • The reassignment to other client offices
