Maintenance Planner- Paul, Idaho

The Maintenance Planner boosts productivity and work quality by proactively coordinating parts, labor, and machine time to avoid delays. This role plans safe execution of routine maintenance on all equipment and facilities, supporting mechanical integrity and cost control through effective planning of repairs and preventive work. The planner collaborates closely with operations, maintenance, and safety teams, and contributes to broader factory and company initiatives. This position will report directly to the Planning and Scheduling Supervisor.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Principal contact between the Maintenance department and the plant.
  • Following the appropriate training, be able to effectively use required JDE functionality to meet requirements of the position.
  • Participation in Amalgamated Sugar Company safety programs and factory safety culture. Reports on all safety concerns and takes corrective action for a safety hazard identified that could impact themselves or others.
  • Participation in functional focus groups and will provide cross function support/ coverage within the Planning and Scheduling Group.
  • Receives all work orders from requesting departments, except emergency work. Advance identified work to executable work orders for the trade team.
  • Ensures all plans developed are consistent with the Amalgamated planning standards. This will include safety procedures, maintenance standards/procedures, identification of required resources, estimated task durations & relationships, materials, equipment, and services required to execute the work identified.
  • The planner is expected to report on his/her progress on a weekly basis and communicate any issues that are preventing plans from progressing.
  • Examine jobs to be done and determine the best way to accomplish the work. Applies actual field condition information, relevant technical data, trade knowledge, personal experience, and where appropriate, input from maintenance, operations, and technical resources to develop high quality executable plans. Consults with requesters, Maintenance Supervisor, Engineering or functional crews when necessary to ensure appropriate content and detail provided in work plans.
  • Obtain blueprints, drawings, instructional manuals and special procedures, as needed.
  • Make any additional sketches, diagrams, etc. necessary to clarify the intent of the work order.
  • Champion factory and company safety. Ensuring safety needs are given a top priority in work planning.
  • Estimates jobs with sequence of steps, the number of tradespersons and required labor hours for each step. Estimates the cost of each work order in terms of direct labor, materials required and total cost.
  • Maintains backlog files of work orders waiting planning and/or scheduling in accordance with their priority limits with an estimated completion date.
  • Verifies the availability of parts, materials and special tools required for job execution prior to scheduling.
  • Assembly of fully planned work into formal job packages for transport to Department Maintenance Groups, Services Group, and Projects Group for execution.
  • Knowledge of each department’s PM workload.
  • Recommends equipment to be included in preventive maintenance programs.
  • Submit purchase requisitions of all predetermined parts, materials and special tools. Specify material call outs, read technical prints.
  • Arranges any safety inspection, fire and standby watch.
  • Facilitates daily meetings with the operations supervisors and the maintenance supervisors to discuss work order approval, schedule and short-term projections on maintenance needs.
  • Develops a file of standard job plans for regularly recurring repair jobs. Development and maintain job library to ensure complete and accurate records consistent with Amalgamated planning standards.
  • Plant stake holder, Precision Maintenance execution and schedule compliance.
  • Inter-campaign maintenance planning development.
  • Learn/Understand the process and operations of the facility.

 

Relationships

  • Reports to the Planning & Scheduling Supervisor.
  • Works closely with Operations and Maintenance supervision.
  • Works closely with Storeroom and Procurement personnel.

 

Requirements, Qualifications and Selection Criteria

  • Mechanical/electrical background necessary and technical school background desired.
  • Adequate trade knowledge to estimate labor hours, materials and visualize job execution.
  • Good oral/written communication skills.
  • Good administrative and mathematical skills.
  • Working knowledge of computers in a reasonable training period.
  • Good planning, organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to understand what constitutes good instructions.
  • Able to read blueprints and shop drawings, ability to sketch.
  • Understanding of the proper use of work orders, priorities, scheduling, etc.
