About Take Command

Take Command is a start-up on a mission to improve the healthcare system, starting with health insurance. Pragmatically speaking, we help employers reimburse employees for individual insurance instead of offering a traditional one-size-fits-all group plan. We believe this model can empower employees (when they have the right support) to be savvy healthcare consumers and have a transformative impact on the entire healthcare system.

Let’s be honest—health insurance is usually a confusing, frustrating, and even emotional experience for people. We want to fix that with a new model, great technology, and a superior user experience. We have made a great start, but we need your help to fully realize our long-term vision.

What it takes to join our team
At Take Command, we believe in a few key traits that set the foundation for success in a communications leadership role:

Coachability
Healthcare, policy, and the media landscape are constantly evolving. We’re looking for someone who is open to feedback, eager to learn, and able to quickly incorporate new insights into their work. You see collaboration and feedback as tools to strengthen your craft and elevate outcomes.

Ownership & Work Ethic
This role requires someone who takes true ownership—from strategy through execution. You’re comfortable rolling up your sleeves, managing multiple workstreams, and following through with excellence. You take pride in your work and are motivated by building something meaningful in a fast-moving startup environment.

Attitude
Communications work involves iteration, testing, and learning from what doesn’t land. You approach challenges with curiosity and optimism, knowing that progress comes from continuous improvement. You’re a positive, thoughtful teammate who brings energy and clarity to the work and the people around you.

The Manager of Communications Role
We are seeking a strategic and execution-focused Manager of Communications to own and oversee Take Command’s external communications and content ecosystem. This role will be responsible for SEO, PR, content development, and social media, while working closely with Growth, Product Marketing, Sales, and internal subject matter experts to ensure consistent, compelling messaging across all channels. This is a highly cross-functional role that blends strategy, storytelling, and hands-on execution.

Responsibilities

  • Own and execute Take Command’s communications strategy across SEO, PR, content, and social media
  • Oversee the website channel to ensure the copy and customer journeys are optimal and drive lead conversion to meet company goals.
  • Lead content development, including blogs, thought leadership, web copy, case studies, bylines, and sales enablement content
  • Partner closely with Growth and Product Marketing to support demand generation, launches, campaigns, and ICP-focused messaging
  • Own agency partner relationships and provide ongoing guidelines and deadlines to keep the executional plans on schedule
  • Collaborate with Sales to develop content that supports the buyer journey and enables meaningful prospect conversations
  • Manage PR efforts, including media outreach, press releases, contributed content, and relationship-building with reporters and industry publications
  • Develop and manage Take Command’s social media strategy, ensuring consistent brand voice and thought leadership across channels
  • Work with internal thought leaders and subject matter experts to shape POVs, narratives, and industry commentary
  • Oversee SEO strategy in partnership with growth and external vendors, including keyword planning, content optimization, and performance tracking
  • Ensure messaging consistency across all external touchpoints and channels
  • Track performance and report on key communications metrics (SEO, engagement, content performance, media coverage)
  • Stay current on industry trends, healthcare policy developments, and competitive positioning to inform messaging
  • Partner with the People team on internal communication efforts
Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience in communications, content marketing, PR, or related roles
  • Strong experience with content strategy, SEO, and external communications
  • Deep experience owning a website built by HubSpot
  • Experience driving social media strategies for LinkedIn and YouTube channels
  • Knowledge of owning multiple agency partnerships and executing to plan
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with growth, product marketing, and sales teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong editorial eye
  • Experience managing social media for a B2B or healthcare/health tech brand
  • Familiarity with PR strategies, media outreach, and thought leadership development
  • Data-driven mindset with the ability to translate insights into action

Compensation: $95,000 - $110,000 plus a potential 10% annual bonus

More About Us

We secured our Series B funding in 2023 and are thrilled to be able to expand our team. Despite being a small startup in a land of health insurance giants, we’re the recognized industry leader for what we do (health insurance reimbursements) and passionate about bringing it to market because we know we can help fix a broken system and improve our clients’ wellbeing and health outcomes. We’ve been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Dallas Morning News, and other national healthcare publications and are excited about our growth opportunities.

Take Command knows diversity and inclusion among our teammates is integral to our company’s success and growth. Our vision is to recruit, develop, and retain the best team from a diverse candidate pool. This has mostly been about us, but we’d love to hear from you--we can’t wait to hear your story!

*Take Command is an equal opportunity employer! We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
