Job Summary
The Manager of Wireless Networking provides operational leadership and hands-on management for the organization's wireless networking services, with a primary focus on enterprise Wi-Fi infrastructure, Cisco-based wireless platforms, and related connectivity solutions. This role is accountable for the day-to-day stability, performance, security, and continuous improvement of wireless network capabilities to support reliable business operations and user experience.
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of wireless network engineers and specialists responsible for the design, deployment, maintenance, and support of enterprise wireless networking (Wi-Fi, wireless access points, controllers, and related connectivity services).
  • Drive stabilization and optimization efforts to enhance wireless network reliability, coverage, performance, and resiliency, with emphasis on mission-critical and high-density environments.
  • Implement and maintain standardized processes, operational procedures, service level expectations, and governance for wireless networking services.
  • Manage vendor and carrier relationships specific to wireless infrastructure, ensuring service quality, SLA compliance, contract adherence, and cost-effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with Security, Architecture, IT operations, and business stakeholders to ensure wireless capabilities align with enterprise security standards, application needs, and user experience goals.
  • Define, monitor, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics for wireless network availability, performance, capacity, and user impact, including regular executive updates as needed.
  • Lead tactical modernization and enhancement projects for wireless infrastructure, including Wi-Fi automation, upgrades to Cisco wireless platforms, cloud-integrated wireless connectivity, and performance tuning.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proven leadership in managing technical teams within complex IT/network environments, with a focus on wireless technologies.
  • Strong expertise in Cisco wireless networking (e.g., access points, controllers, DNA Center or similar), Wi-Fi standards, RF principles, and troubleshooting.
  • Solid operational and analytical skills for managing network performance, incident resolution, and capacity planning.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills to engage with technical teams, cross-functional partners, and leadership.
  • Ability to drive change, implement process improvements, and lead team development in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic financial awareness for managing team resources, vendor costs, and budget inputs related to wireless initiatives.

The ability to work outside normal hours, when needed, is expected, and participation in an on-call rotation is required for this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads multiple IT teams or disciplines, ensuring strategic alignment and effective execution
  • Develops long-term plans for technology capabilities, staffing, and budget management
  • Partners with senior business leaders to define and prioritize technology initiatives
  • Establishes governance frameworks, standards, and metrics for performance and risk management 
  • Promotes innovation and adoption of emerging technologies to improve efficiency and scalability
  • Builds and maintains a high-performing team culture focused on accountability and results

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred
  • Preferred Education: College Degree with Certifications and Experience
  • Required Experience: 8–12 years of progressive IT experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role
  • Computer Skills Required: Some workstation and server support experience.   Substantial network administration experience.
