We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what’s next.

The Messaging Data Science and Engineering team aims to drive our Data Science, Analytics, and Data Engineering strategies for our messaging domain (off-service communications to our existing member base). In many ways, this space functions as a “mini Netflix”; it is a highly cross-functional team that sits at the intersection of our content, product, and algos domains. A strong messaging strategy is essential to ensure we meet both our member and business needs, whether that involves ensuring our members are aware of the content available to them or ensuring new business lines (Live, Games) are effectively supported.

We are looking for an exceptional technical leader to manage a team with a variety of role profiles and guide and shape our science and analytics approach to Messaging.  The ideal candidate has a passion for diving into complex systems to shape the technical strategy of the team.  Additionally, strong cross-functional collaboration skills are a must; the messaging space has a complex stakeholder landscape, and we sit at the intersection of it all.  In success, this leader will help shape our broader messaging strategy in a way that drives strong impact across a multitude of business needs across Netflix.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead a team of mixed technical roles (Data Scientists, Analytics Engineers, and Data Engineers).

  • Drive the vision and roadmap for the team, balancing the needs of multiple business. stakeholders while ensuring we maximize impact on the business.

  • Be a strategic thought partner to shape the strategy of the broader Messaging domain; This is not a “sit back and let people tell you what to do” role.

  • Drive a culture of innovation through collaboration with other leaders in the broader Data Science and Engineering space.

  • Embody Netflix values in daily work and interactions.

You have:

  • Demonstrated experience leading Data Science or related area teams - particularly in domains with complex stakeholder environments or with greater flexibility to decide what the team focuses on.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including proven ability to effectively collaborate with a variety of technical and non-technical business partners and other data science leaders.

  • A passion for driving and influencing product strategies in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity; a strong ownership mindset, a desire to thrive on minimal oversight and process, and a willingness to learn and rapidly absorb business context.

  • Masters or PhD in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field preferred.
