About the role

The Manager, Power Strategy will play a vital role in executing Riot’s power strategy for its Bitcoin mining and AI/HPC operations. This individual will be responsible for negotiating bids/offers and executing trades for Riot’s energy portfolio, managing Riot’s energy use to fulfill ancillary obligations and curtailment across multiple sites, and collaborating cross-functionally with the QSE and IT teams to drive execution of Riot’s power strategy.


As a key member of the Operations team, the Manager will contribute to the continued growth and optimization of Riot’s self-mining and AI/HPC businesses.


Essential Functions

  • Negotiate and execute energy trades with counterparties.
  • Execute power operations strategy to achieve industry-leading net power costs.
  • Collaborate with QSE, on-site operations, and IT to fulfill daily ancillary obligations.
  • Manage curtailment events for multiple sites in response to high prices, demand response, and 4CP conditions.
  • Monitor natural gas and power markets, as well as ERCOT system conditions, to identify and recommend hedging opportunities and strategies.
  • Support development and continuous improvement of Riot’s power management processes and analytics. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), with strong Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Strong financial analysis capability, including building complex financial models, forecasting, scenario analysis, and risk evaluation.
  • Familiarity with network operations centers, QSEs, ERCOT operations, and/or power trading is preferred.
  • Established relationships within the power trading and ERCOT ecosystem are a plus.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Knowledge of the Bitcoin network, Bitcoin mining metrics, and energy markets is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across functions and manage multiple projects.
  • Proactive problem-solver with high attention to detail.

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or Economics required.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience, ideally in financial analysis, power trading, ERCOT planning/operations, and/or QSE/network operations center experience.
  • Passion for Bitcoin and commitment to developing the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Supervisory Duties

  • No direct reports; must be capable of managing cross-functional workstreams and leading initiatives independently.
